Post Post subject: can we clarify the ohv/mc/regular plate/park pass stuff?

Ive been searching the forums to find out what I need to go off roading legally and it usually swims into MC this and RV that and an occassional you need/not need a pass for such and such park or area.

In my case I have a fully street legal (titled registered insured) baja.

Do I need an OHV also?

And what are the passes mentioned sometimes? Just park entry fees?

A big sticky thread on this covering the MC and RV stuff needing an OHV or not might help also.

Thanks-
-Brett

If you have the regular street plate like a normal passenger car, you do not need the OHV decal.

AZGF FAQ's

AZ Trust Land Use Permits

Can I operate on State Trust Land?

An OHV meeting the 1,800-pound or less requirement and displaying the OHV Decal may cross State Trust Land only on designated or open existing roads and trails. Do not enter closed areas.
Operation of support vehicles (RV, truck, trailer, etc.) requires a recreational permit.
Any other recreational purposes (picnics, camping, etc.) require the purchase of the recreation permit from the Arizona State Land Department.

Q: Why do I need a permit to go on State Trust land for recreation purposes and how do I obtain a recreational permit?

Arizona State Trust lands are not "public lands", as are Federal lands under the management of the U.S. Forest Service or the Bureau of Land Management. Federal "public lands" are managed for the benefit and use of the public, while State Trust lands are managed for the benefit of 13 Trust beneficiaries, which include the public schools and prisons. The Land Department's trust management responsibilities include requiring a permit or lease and charging a fee for use of Trust land. Exceptions to this requirement are licensed hunters and fishers, actively pursuing game or fish, in-season, and certain archaeological activities permitted by the Arizona State Museum.

thank you rickman... the best answer yet... in my opinion...

the small fees for the passes and yearly permits are nothing compaired to lets say if your on blm and you do something just slightly wrong and you dont have the pass or permit... they can take your ride. mmmm lets see... 15 bucks for a year pass or try to recover your ride from who knows where.

ohv, state trust land pass, tonto pass.... the money collected is doing good if you go out in the land far enough to see new signs , in some areas, new permanent toilets, gates, some paved roads, and just plain road upkeep.

besides your rich, break out the dead presidents and share.....

Sooooooo...... What exactly is the RV plate good for?

I don't understand why the DMV gives them out. Evidently they are worthless.

(Care for a little cheese with that whine?)
