Look at that yellow Hi Jumper (yes...it REALLY IS a Hi Jumper!) Then...Look at my avatar!

And then this...

Is that a glass windshield?

How is it mounted?

Do you have wipers?

Yes it's a Hi Jumper, It's my Sons and Ya It's a Real Glass Windshield. It has a piece of thin steel about 3/8 tall welded around the Inside of the cage in the windshield area and then Just has a typical Rubber Windshield seal holding the glass in and yes it has a manual wiper that is mounted through the flat pc of steel I described above. Simple but effective.

What till it rolls out in the Spring +4 Beam/4 adjusters and 15" towers and Hopefully 3X3's on the rear. Fox Shocks all the way around. Also building new nerf bars for it.

Very Cool!

I SO OFTEN find people passing off their no-name buggies as a "HiJumper" or "Chenowth" when they aren't remotely close. I suppose some people think any tube frame buggy is a Hi Jumper or Chenowth. But to me it's like calling a Rambler a "Mustang" just because it's a 2-door sedan.

The original plan for my Hi Jumper was for it to be a play buggy with license plates like your son's. Mine was (according to the guy at San Fernando Buggy) the 1st frame sold with the kicked out top side rails. But some friends wanted to partner up to go racing and mine was nearly done and met the Tech Rules.

I had plans for a glass windshield and considered the same method as in your son's, but wanted to be able to remove it easily or at least tilt it down like a Jeep. i was looking into drilling the glass and installing grommets with carriage bolts and tabs to clamp it in place or a frame of 1/16 steel channel with electric wiper and tabs like a NASCAR hood hinge at the bottom corners with aircraft removable pins. I never yet did the windshield, but would still love to.

I've been to this whole buggy was Built @ San Fernando Buggy Center. I can't confirm it though. It did have Dual Tanks in it believe it or not. It has a Business card laminated into the glass on passenger side and has a Tag on the frame that also says San Fernando Buggy Center.

It would have been built in the '78 (when mine was built) to about '83 era. After that, the Sand Sprite I frame was pushed for this type of buggy, although I still consider the Ascot I like yours and mine to be superior. The later style fiberglass side pods designed to fit the kicked out side rails became available in about '81-82. Our side pods were a little difficult to fit as they tapered down on the top and they had to be cut flexed to fit when new. After 30 years they will fit right on there no problem. The poly side pod tanks were not all that popular as some feared side impacts, though I don't know of any incidents where they were a problem. In the 70s, there were a lot of race cars with fuel cells like that. They were eventually banned for the same concerns.

I love your buggy. It makes me want to drop everything else and fix the broken gearbox in mine. But I have other priorities such as finishing the work on my Baja.

Thanks, We love it too. Email me any info, pic's, etc. you have of HI Jumpers. Mine is Assembled Title as a 83'. Previous owner said it came straight from Cali to Michigan. It's a nice buggy now, will be awesome in the spring. He's 13 yrs old in those pics driving it.

Working on my Baja alot. Will post in the projects when I get a lil farther along.

I bought a few parts today from Kurt at Kars. I installed a shifter extender, license plate light and sunroof handle. The sunroof works! Yeeehawwwww!

I then removed my front bumper. Tomorrow it goes back to Daryll for some adjustments. I am stoked that the sunroof works!

Towed her to NC a few weeks ago in preparation for the closing on our house here in VA. As soon as I line up a job there, I plan to continue with the 2 pumps on the pedal issue. Just need a second 2lb pressure valve.

Worked on the brakes on project II looks like we are going to need a new Master cylinder, and my other kid Mddypruett69 made a great trade for a 1641 single port for his baja. It spun the main bearing due to no end play. So I need to have it line bored, get 1 1641 piston and bearings. The motor for project II also needs line bored and bearings. Next month is gonna be buzy for me trying to finish both these Bajas so i can work on mine again.

I picked up my baja today... First one ever! Very Happy
I put some of those white spoke rear wheels on the rear and drove her to in n out burger at 9 pm in fog so heavy I had to put on the windshield wipers... I love this thing! I feel like I'm really scaring anyone who I drive past... A tiny tin can blaring deathmetal (the cd left in by the owner) making more noise than a 1.6l should ever make!!!! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
