I'm fabbing up my own roof rack and was wondering what others have done for attachment ideas. Can I buy the drip rail attachments somewhere and weld them to my roof rack? Or how have you guys done yours? pictures are amazing, I'd like to get a few ideas. Smile

mine is attached to my roof via the drip rails. mine mounts the same way a stock roof rack does, since that's basically what it is.

your other option is to mount it through the roof to the roll cage. it all mostly depends on what you're using your roof rack for. i have mine mounted to the drip rails, and i use my rack for bikes and an ice chest typically.

And that seems to be strong enough? Yea, I'd use it for the ice chest, chairs, and that kinda stuff for camping etc. and to mount some back up lights.

for what mine is it does fine. i've never had a problem with it. it stays on there just fine. In my opinion too, it is better to have it mounted to the drip rails and not the roll cage because if there is a chance of you rolling the car, the drip rail mounted rack won't have an effect on the cage if you put the car on its lid.

Yea, that makes sense...Is there any where I can buy just the drip rail mounts? I'm gonna be ambitious and make my own roof rack... Smile

i'm not sure where you can buy them, but i know they do sell them. i've seen them online before. you could also make your own as well. i have a feeling if you're gonna make your own rack you should be able to fab up some mounts.

haha... actually.... It's going to be a learning thing. I've got minimal play time with a welder, but my buddy who welded for a living the past few years is going to help me out, basically with the heat settings and what not. we'll see how it goes. ....

Mine bolts on through the roof with 1/2-13 bolts through the bottom..
I cant think of any particular reason this would be better except maybe it could be handy if you needed to winch on it or a sllight advantage in being able to put more weight on it with no fear...

Do you have any problems with the eye bolt hitting the roof? At the Haysayampa day, I wanna check out those clamps... I've never paid much attention to how they clamp exactly because I've never wanted one on our street bugs...
