Installed my first ever roller pedal. Well, not completed yet. Gotta loosen the clutch cable to get the pedal assembly back in. Got involved in other stuff and couldn't finish. Will work on it Saturday. Also got another cv boot. Passenger side has a hole in it already... Oh, and a fuel tank sending unit. Gauge works now, thank god..... Wink

Started sanding my fenders, and marking off where i will trim them. Now i'm stuck trying to decide whether to go with bumper mounted lights, and trim my fenders further back, or to go with traditional headlights in the fenders...

I found mine! 3-4 years ago a client gave me a 70 (..or is it a 71?) bug. I towed it to our second home, shoehorned it into the garage, then forgot about it. It is my 20th Bug.

A couple weeks ago I went off-roading for th e first time in a Jeep. It was a ton of fun but the whole time I was wishing I was in a VW....that's when I remembered I had an extra Bug stashed away somewhere.

It took a while to un-bury it from the garage. I was pleasantly surprised to see what good shape it was in for being a freebie. I didn't remember that it had a sunroof! No rust to be found, gotta love California...

After a brief search on craigslist I found some front and rear double-tube bumpers, nerf bars, and skid plates. All are new and unused. Total price was a steal at $150.00 for everything. I just gotta figure out the new welder I bought.

This will be my first Baja. I'm already looking for a class 11 cage and a Mark V kit. I have an 1835cc motor I was saving for my RHD 56 but I think I'll make better use of it off-road.

I am new to this site and am looking forward to all of its resources. Where is that section on frame-head replacement and bug vs. bus transaxles????

Ok SO I need an emissions test! My engine will never pass hahaha. It runs great but would never pass in its set up. Is there anyone here that has a running unused stock engine that would be willing to loan it to me for a day so I can use it for the emissions?? I know its asking a lot, but I would be willing to pay a little for the use of the engine. I could have it back to you within a day. I really need to get this done in the next couple weeks before my temp runs out. If not, no play day for me and I have no clue how ill be able to keep this thing on the road hahaha. If anyone is able to help, you can PM me here or call my cell at 607-316-5085. I am on I17 and cactus. Thanks a lot

Chris

Welcome to AZ Baja. Start a post in the build section so you progress will stay in order. It makes it easy to follow the transformation. My advice would to leave the 1835 for the oval and build a very mild 2275 for the Baja which works better with big tires and 12 volt gearing.

Ordered more parts today. Feel like I've been "BLEEDING" money over the last two months. The unfortunate thing is it isn't going to stop any time soon.

Ow, (as I walk around with a scab on my nose where I hit myself with a trunk from one of my queen palms)

Adjusted the valves... and tuned the carb a bit.. It's got a constant light drip.. so this carb is going to the soaker for a bit.. and a rebuild is soon to come.

Went offroading yesterday out in Quail Valley! It was a blast but unfortunately I broke something that has to do with the throwout bearing.

Pulled the motor today and sure enough, the throwout bearing arm broke where it comes in contact with the throwout bearing so it was just hanging there. Also found out my clutch cable was fraying!

Ordered a new arm and cable from Pacific, hopefully get her back on the road by this weekend!

Accelerator pump finally wore out on my Weber thingy pumping more gas out than in the carb. Splurged and bought a new one from BAP. Started with 2.5 turns on both screws and the car runs better than it ever did, more power and no flat spot goodness.

You are lucky you found the problem when you did. when it happened to me my tranny ended up with a 1.5" hole knocked out of the bottom. I hope the new arm you ordered is heavy-duty and fully welded.

WELL!!!! Where to start!!! So, I went to the meet last night and we had a great time I must say! 5 Vws in total including 3 new visitors, 1 new Baja and 1 new rail and Baja17 with a pretty nice Cutlass....... That being said, on the way there, my car blew out its pulley seal on the engine and it was spraying light amounts of oil all over the place. I got to Sonic, let it cool, checked and added some oil and left when pretty much everyone else did. I got home from school today, pull half the exhaust off and the pulley and trashed the belt (it was shot and I have 5 others so it was just easier to trash it. I pulled out the seal and along with it the right side of the seal housing AKA CRANK CASE!!! That being said I now have a worthless crank case... So I now have 1 ALMOST running 1776 and a ripped apart engine at Dirtjunkie's (believed to be a nice size stroker). However, in setting up the car, I now have no money to put the other engine together OR replace the case in this one. SO I AM WITHOUT A BAJA!! It will now sit in my parking spot til I have the money to fix one of the engines.... FREAIKIN VWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Got the pedal assembly in after converting to a roller gas pedal. So far me likey... Cool Very responsive.. We'll see how I feel after some serious driving.
I didn't trim off the original pedal mount in case. So far it doesn't seem to interfere with my big foot. How 'bout any one else? Remove/not?
