My old dash was falling apart so I started taking it off today. I was wondering what my options were. I saw this on ebay and was wondering how easy it was to mount or if there is a better option.

This doesnt really look like it will cover what the old dash did. I am also trying to plug some of the holes in the dash before it gets to cold.

Air rushing through the mounting holes is minimal compared to the cold air coming through the speaker hole and ash tray. Either of the replacement dashes need to be well sealed. On new projects I weld up un-needed holes.

24 holes filled and a couple more to go.

Even with unwanted holes sealed there are lots of places for air to get in.
Fabricating a removable sealed bulk head would be the best way to go.

I agree with perri, Welding up extra holes will be the best way to go. But if you dont have that option the fiberglass dash piece will cover pretty much everything. When you put the dash piece on get some seam sealer (autozone sells it in a tube for $8) to seal it to the metal. Seam sealer is paintable, silicone isnt.

If you do have a welder I prefer the look of a smooth dash like these pics. I even filled in my ashtray cuz they are pretty much worthless unless you smoke.

Hey pschneider! Nice to see a fellow Virginian. I'm up in Northern VA between D.C. and Leesburg. But hopefully not for long.

I also agree with perrib. Weld up the holes. Even tho I didn't yet.. I just sealed them up with a black RTV for now. I also skipped installing a dash. I always liked the plain dash look from my long lost '66. I did get an aluminum cover that I cut up to place behind the grills in the dash. I still need to plug those other ones where the original fuse block was and around the ash tray. I like the ash tray 'cause it gives me a place to put my radio remote. Cool

Good luck with whatever you decide and keep us posted...
