Have a few more cosmetic things to do, but she's ready to roll. The cv joints were pretty easy for me, just kinda hard to keep that grease from getting all over everything. Don't know about you, but my ears and nose always seems to itch when my hands are full of grease. Ended up tying sandwich bags one one side while packing the other c.v. joint to keep the grease in and the dirt out. Installing them back was a snap. They should last until I save up enough to upgrade the suspension (years from now, to be honest).

She runs great. I was afraid the engine would be struggling with the bigger tires, but she pulls away good enough for me. Still have to get a new shifter, the one that's in right now is my "spare". And I need new dampers, among other things, but funds are diminished right now so I'm just gonna drive her till something breaks. Laughing

I'll try to get better pictures of everything later on, right now here's a couple of camera phone pics.

Great concept and great execution of your idea. Best of all, you kept plugging away and finished in a little over a year right? I wish I was that focused on finishing mine.. Confused

There were a couple of moments when I thought I would never finish. Rebuilding the c.v. joints was something I had never attempted before, and was a little nervous about. It turned out to be really simple, but messy.

Plus, I had a pretty good support group at the local bugformance shop, who gave me ideas to work off of. I still need to drive it over there to show them the results. I'm also planning on being at the next Bugorama show, here in Sacramento.

GREAT build man! Very Happy well done!.one of my future projects will also be a sand scorcher , have already started putting parts aside for her.was wondering if you would make another set of decals for the right price? but maybe that might violate some sort of copyright law or even some help on how to enlarge them from the original kit size that would be great.love the sand scorcher and want to cruise the australian beaches and turn sum heads as i bet your scorcher does! well done again

Thanks, I think so too! Very Happy

Now that I'm driving it again, I'm constantly reminded of the need to rebuild the motor. I have to confess, I'm not enthusiastic when it comes to rebuilding engines. The last engine I rebuilt was a 1957 Ford Y-block. It was a 292 with 312 ecz heads. I put a lot of time and money into that motor and car, and it just never ran right. Fix Or Repair Daily, I guess. Rolling Eyes
I ended up selling her, and I've regretted it ever since. I guess I'm afraid this will happen if I have a bad experience with the bug. Crying or Very sad
