hello all,

I have a problem with my 1960 vw baja, 1776 dual Kardrons, 29mm torsion bars, 1968 trans with welded third and forth, superdiff and rear truss bars. The problem is after i had the 29mm torsion bars put in I have a surging/wheel hop problem when i accelerate. When i put in the clutch the hop/surging sensation is gone. Then back on the throttle surging sensation wheel hop comes back. I have had two different vw mechanics check it and they can not find anything wrong. Thanks in advance if anyone can lead me in the right direction.

What size tires? and do you have to much ari in them? Also look and see that your not hitting the lower stop on your rear control arms you should have a min 2" drop when you jack the car up.

I'm assuming you mean on take off in first gear. Solid or stock engine mounts? Upper and lower mid mount? Broken nose cone? Bad pressure plate? No bow in the bowden tube? I ran 30 shorts and never wheel hopped. You should fab up dual shock mounts and install dual shocks for 29 mm bars.

It does it in all gears under throttle as you go down the road.
it has solid mounts all the way around. It had a split case but welded in the adapter in the front when i went to the 68 long axle.
I have plans for dual shocks in back one day.
Nose cone does not seem to be broken
bow in the bowden tube
with out sound on this thing it kind of goes wha wha wha wha wha under throttle then all smooth when you put it in neutral and clutch in.

Describe it differently. Does it shake the whole time you accelerate?
Does it shake when you coast but leave it in gear?
Have you spun the rear wheels to see if an axle is bent?
Does it get worse as you speed up/
Video?

well its worse when i am accelerating. If in gear and coasting its still there just not as bad. However its worse when i'm going around 20 and 30 in second gear but its in all gears. I have spun the axles and they seem alright. I will try and take a video but with a stinger its going to be hard to tell. Before i put on the truss bar you could watch the stinger bounce when accelerating then stop when you put in the clutch and coasted.

I was thinking a bad tire, maybe broken belt or blister etc. Need to see it.

ok after talking to several people over at Sway Away they say that with my 1960 bug swing axle i can not use 29mm bars. The bars are two stiff and causing the bug to bounce under throttle. So will have a brand new set of short Sway Away bars up for grabs.
