I built one last year, actually. I have a build thread on the SoCal site, located here:

socalbajas.yuku.com/topic/174

Pull up a chair and grab a beer (or cup of coffee). It's a long transformation. It only took about six months, and I have very little money into it. It hangs with the big boys, though. In fact, I would go so far as to say it will outperform ANY Type 1 built on the same budget.

(ducking, as rocks will likely be thrown)

I've proven it on the SCB runs if there are any doubters.

Not throwing rocks, I LOVE your car. I'm curious what you think it is about the Square that makes it such a good performer?

Kyle

We also make NEW body lifts.

Lots of things, Kyle. I have 10.5" of travel in the rear and 10" in the front. Try that with a stock BJ or LP front end! It rides really smooth and nice. I'd never do it, but it would be fun to drink a glass of wine in it while driving over the rough stuff! Articulation is fantastic. Also, it makes it up nasty stuff with no problem whatsoever whereas I've been with some Things and bajas on our runs that weren't able to do the very same climbs. It may be a weight bias thing, but for whatever reason, it seems to have better traction than the others. It carries lots and lots of stuff, too!

I don't think I'd ever build a baja "bug" again, to tell you the truth. I think I'd stick with Type 3's from now on.

Of course, I'm a little cuckoo, but you probably already knew that!

Wow- that's odd, for sure. Sorry I've no experience with dual carbs, but hopefully someone with know-how will chime in for you soon.

Good luck with your project man! And keep us posted and picced!

Damnit 57Baja, you're right. The Square likely makes a better Baja. My only hangup is that I have two Type 1's, three bodies, etc. And I really like the look of the Baja Bug better...not to mention the history. It's just so odd. The Square makes too much sense, lol. I still want one to build one BAD!

Kyle

I have ICT's on the Baja Squared project, myself. I bought them new, and they're a pain. I had to add another spring to mine. It's no big deal, other than it puts additional strain on your throttle cable.

Carry an extra one.

Hi 57,

I love your Baja and your Baja Squared. I am an avid outdoors man and love hiking/backpacking, camping, canoing/kayaking, biking, and fishing. You get the picture.

I have been looking at Suburu Outbacks and Jeep Patriots. They were both recommended at outdoor adventurer sites. Then I thought, what about a type III square back. What kind of gas mileage do you get out of yours? How much ground clearance does it have? I think one would be similar to an outback, but only a cooler and less expensive investment. Please respond back.
