Over the last couple of weeks every time I use the car the smell gets a little stronger. The fuel line from the frame horn to the carb is new and is dry to the touch. The gas cap appears to seal well. The gas vent hose is new and I have a nice loop in it as high as I can get it. I think the smell is stronger towards the front of the car. The pan has a recent coat of dust and there is no where that a leak is apparent. The smell seems to be the same on a full as well as a near empty tank.
I can't seem to find where the fuel exits the fuel tank as I want to look in that area for a leak. Is there a fuel hose exiting the tank connecting to a hard line heading towards the rear?
Thanks

Yes, if you have a stock tank, there should be a flexible line between the bottom of the tank and the metal line that runs through the tunnel. Find that sucker and check it out. If you're sure the metal line in the tunnel is good, it seems like the abovementioned line would be the only other possibility for a leak that you can smell in the cabin.

a good way to check if the metal line in the tunnel is broken or rusted out slightly is if your leaking from the drain hole near the back of the pan.

Like az350x said it's most likely the flexible line between the gas tank and metal line.

yes,,soft line from tank to hard line going into tunnel, look under the carat the pan,,any wet spots?,could be the fuel line running thru tunnel also,,hence the wet spot, jack the car up in the front and look up under the tank thru the fender wells,

- It is the stock tank
- no wet spots on the pan. This was made easy to check as the pan has a nice new layer of dust on it so any leaks would really show up.

I suspected the soft line up front between the tank and hard line to tunnel but couldn't find the soft line. I'll jack it up tomorrow morning.

if you have a stock tank it's only 4 bolts to lift it up...

The hose is in the center of the tank above the tunnel. It is hard to see with the tire on. Also if the filler neck is in the front 1/4 panel check the connector hoses.

It is your fuel sender on top of the tank. Next time you fill it up see if gas is leaking out the top around the fuel sender. The gas will pool up on the top of the tank and it has no place to go so it will smell, like gas...

I hadn't thought of that- there's a good chance he's right.

What I have found so far:
It doesn't look interesting at all around the fuel level sender, clean and dry.

There was a dark stain looking area underneath where the big fuel filler hose connects to the tank. The clamps were tight. I loosened the clamps and rotated the hose about 1/16 of a turn and retightened the clamps. It leaked during this time. I have a full tank so tomorrow I am going to flog it around and get a good slosh going. If it still leaks there I'll replace all the big hose.

The fuel line at the vent near was swollen, it is less than a year old. I cut off about and inch and used a clamp as best I could.

The fuel line underneath the tank look like the car had been through salt or something but it all looked tight and intact.

I wish I could find the squeezy motorcycle hose clamps to replace the chinese worm gear hose clamps.

The vent hoses get sel tightening 3.5 mm hose. BAP has it.
They also have the filler neck hose.
