so im driving my new v dub all over town today to school in gilbert and then the long treck to mesa everything is going fine and dandy
but when i get back to the valley to get my brother and drop off my friends its all down hill from there.
i get home and it was a little bit hard to get into gear but i thought nothing of it
then i go to circle k to get a drink and it was really hard to get into 1,2,3 rd
so i got some new gear oil put it in same problem
and when i push the clutch in it almost to the floor
so i tried to adjust the clutch to the best of my abilities and nothing changed
so now i wonder if the clutch pressure palte and throw out bearing or something
any ideas
thanks

i figured undo the bolts and nuts mounting to the trans and motor with it on jack stands
then with a block of wood and jack on the lower part of the motor and pull it out
something to that nature
got to remember it is a stock beetle
thanks again perri

motor has to come out. It's the lever that moves the throwout bearing and disengages your clutch. Without it, the clutch stays engaged, so you can't start/stop the car or shift gears.

Is that basically what's happening?

When you press the clutch, does the clutch arm on the transmission move or not? That will tell you if the hook/cable broke up by the pedals (arm doesn't move) or if the problem is in the clutch itself (arm does move- time to pull the motor!).

That should be an easy way of at least seeing where you need to look first.

yeah i got a new cable in the car today but before the arm would move a bit like 1/2 in tryed time and time agian to adjust it but wouldnt
so i pulled the motor to look at the clutch and what not
looks to be pretty worn so i think im going to do that tomorow
and the arm looks pretty decent
how do you put the spring (coil thing that raps round it) all the way on to the arm
is it pretty easy

Clutch forks are what hold the throwout bearing in place. If the little grooves are hogged out or the arms are not straight, time for a new one.
