Post Post subject: negative camber in the rear

Gentlemen,
I have a 69 baja (irs of course), but have a preposterous amount of negative camber ( top of wheel in, bottom out) in the driver side rear. The local expert proposed it was a bent "stub axle." After taking it apart, it looked pretty straight to me.
1. Is there a measurement I could do to make sure the stub axle is straight and true?
2. Could it be something else?

Thanks for any and all help.

i'm with Perri on this one, sounds like it could be a trailing arm.

It is not the rim or stub axle as the tire would spin in an eliptical pattern.
Is your trail arm becoming unbolted?

Trail arm bolts? 17 mm allen and the three holding it to the arm?

Does your 69 have double spring plates or single?

Yes, a 17 mm allen was tightened and torqued and cotter pinned.

Not sure what the difference between single and double sring plates are though.

Some cars had two spring plates per side that the trailing arm mounts too. I did a IRS conversion to a swingaxle and had the same problem you have. I had double spring pates on each side. Can't find any proof, but there are two trailing arm designs. Only visual difference is bolt mounting pattern. Both have four bolts, One has three corners of square and a center and the other has a square. Mix the two and only three corner bolts line up. Does that make sense?

I think i know what you're talking about Will. I do have 2 spring plates per side and a "square pattern" although couldnt the "3 corners and a center pattern be underneath the top piece with the "square pattern?" The square covering the center pattern?
Anybody know how to tell it you have a bent trailing arm?
-but if it was bent, wouldnt that mess up the shock and mount (a visible difference in angle of the shock?) some rubbing or vibration?
thanks will

Your making it way more complicated than it is. You either have a bent trailing arm or a bent torsion housing. It bends where the spring plate extension is welded to the diagonal tube. Thats why the good reinforcement kit triangulates the stock arm with chromoly tubing.

Maybe I misunderstand your post. Did you notice a camber change after a ride or after installing a new part? I was assuming you put on a new part.
