And the lady at MVD explained to me that it isn't a 30 or 35 year rolling cuttoff in Az like it was for me in Texas. It's 66 and will be for the forseeable future.

yeah Arizona is the WORST state for smog testing, even worse than california in my opinion, Arizona is the ONLY state in the entire United States that requires emissions testing on MOTORCYCLES!

my tags expire in May, i'm not looking foreward to running my '68 through emissions again, and they make me take mine through every year.

Holy smokes, I learn something new everyday. I always though AZ was a Free state, maybe for Gun laws and stuff like that but c'mon 66' as the cut off Rolling Eyes . Hell even CA doesn't haven't to Smog anything 75' or older (Thanks to Arnie and his Stupid tax raising laws) his administration cut off the 25year old Smog Law Sad .

You can get around it with collector car insurance, but it has to be your extra car for it all to work. you might look into that.....DMV started that program a couple of years ago, but you do not hear much about it....

A friend of mine just went through the process on his Maverick as he knew it wouldn't pass with his built engine. He went through Hagerty to insure it. He insured for a stated value that he set himself, no appraisals. Hagerty had him take three snaps. They do require that the car is garaged. Hagerty notifies MVD electronically that the car is insured as a collectible.

I think you might run into trouble on a Baja as Hagerty may not accept a chopped up bug as a collectible.

You might be surprised at what will pass inspection though. I have had three failures, 69 Baja, 69 Ford Falcon, 95 Kawasaki, all at idle, all easily fixed and retested. My Baja visibly smokes at startup and passed.

I live in the city of maricopa. So i have NO SMOG required. Cool

If you reside in pinal county, and do NOT commute to Maricopa county with that vehicle for work or school, you do NOT have to smog it.

A little untold fact.

How can anyone tell whether or not you "commute" to Maricopa Co. unless you are stopped and your registration/license is checked? Does the plate sticker give anything away?

Is Maricopa the only county in AZ that requires smog testing? I know for sure Yavapai and Coconino don't. I guess it's just a matter of time...

Just make sure you have another vehilce in your name that they can look up. just tell them you drive that into maricopa county. Sticker is the same. They just want to make sure you dont drive to maricopa county daily for work or school. Its pretty much an honesty system. Kinda loop hole I think.

If you dont work or go to school in maricopa county and reside in pinal, its a no brainer.

my registration on my vehicle is no different than any other.

Unfortunately this is also being updated, most of Pinal County now DOES require emissions, you have to live way out almost by Florence to get around it now. it's getting crazy. we learned this when we went to buy a house in Pinal county to try to get around emissions, then found out since so many people were moving into that area, and since it is being built up so much, they have widened the testing areas.

You are refering to the zone A and zone B statues. Those only apply if you DO NOT tell them that you DO NOT commute into Marciopa county. I live in city of maricopa. Its 16 miles to chandler. Alot closer than florence.

Ive had over 30 vehicles since ive been in maricopa. LOL.

Ive learned how to go about things.

If you are worried. Get classic car insurance

I did that with a beat up nova before because i was too lazy to go to the dmv and argue. I ended up paying 72.00 for a year of collector car insurance on a 70 nova that was claimed to be worth 3000 dollars. It was actually worth going that route because my reg insurance would have been close to 350 for the year. The only downfall of collector car insurance is that you have to sign a waiver that you will not drive to the store, work, or any other place. I also told them the car would be always garaged. Stipulations for my company was taht it was to be only driven for enjoyment.
