Well hello everyone, I am not really new to bugs or bajas but I have recently gotten my first one in about 15 years. I have been looking around the site for several hours and have a couple of questions still. I have a pretty good idea on how I want to build but pondering where to start. I have planned on removing the body, but I am unsure about whether to fit the 1 piece front first or after the body goes back on. Also when cutting and turning the front end I have seen several threads that say 1/4 turn. That seems like a lot I always heard more like 1/4 to 3/8 inch of rotation.

Welcome to the forums!

Looks like a good project. I've never had or built a Baja but I'm sure there's people here who can point you in the right direction.

WELCOME to AzBaja!, i'm from Washington state as well, what part are you from?

as for the one peice front end, i would wait 'till the body is back on the car before you start cutting and fitting to ensure you get a good snug fit. Good luck with your build! Cool

Welcome to AZBAJA. The more you turn it the stiffer it gets. Sometimes I only cut and turn on tube for a better ride. Then use lift spindles and 30" tall tires to do most of the raising.

I never did like the way they handled after turning the beam. We had better luck leaving it stock, adding some lift spindles, and using those cheap coil-over shocks. Bolting on stuff is so much easier.

The 1/4 is actually 1/4 inch. Wait on trying the front end until the body is on the pan. The good thing about lift spindles is they do not change the ride quality

Thanks for the info guys. I have a couple other projects to finish up before I get a good start on this one. I plan on pulling the body and stripping everything I can unbolt off the pan then take it to work and sandblast the entire pan. My boss has a booth big enough to get the whole bug into and lets us use it for the cost of the sand.

Preston I am from Burlington but may be moving over to the east side this summer about 2 hours from Moses lake.

Well a little more background on me. I am a fabricator, welder, machinist, and certifiable umm I mean certified mechanic. I think this will be a fun build if I dont get too out of control, those class 5 bugs are sweet lookin Twisted Evil . anyway here is one of my past projects before and after racing it on the clay oval at Skagit Speedway, and that was a PIPE cage. I rolled it 7 times and got hit in the middle of it all. cage is straight but the car got severly twisted.
