I was wondering if anybody has any write ups or links on installing an aftermarket stabilizer in a baja? Or if it can even be done with the amount of room up there. I'd really like to put a Procomp or Rancho unit up there instead of the rear door style one that's blown out. Please let me know, I know I'm not the only one to think about it, but I can't seem to find any projects with one installed?

You need one with at least the same travel as a stock on. From there it is easy to fab new mounts. I always remove them and the sway bar from all the Bajas I have owned and have traveled thousands of miles without them..

I just about broke my hand last week from the bump steer. The reason I asked was the cost of the little cheesy damper from VW, you might as well go with a real one. It's got to help.

Excessive bump steer in a suspension is a defect that needs to be fixed.
You can always make a dummy larger stabilizer to check for clearance issues with duct tape and an apropriate sized piece of PVC pipe. Koni may still sell thier Heavy Duty adjustable steering dampner for T-1s. Bilstien HD part is # B22-0028.

I'm still new to Bajas but I know how to rebuild and tune Fox shocks. If you could get a rebuildable tunable dampner in there, you could add more resistance. Basically tuning your amount of bump steer.

Or, would a rack and pinion set up cure this problem?

I'm not going to get all involved with this. I've got a BJ front end in right now, and until I can afford or find a link pin setup, I'm not going to make any major mods to this beam or steering.
