The pistons are the least of your worries. It is time to split the case and see how much more water damage you have. If I was stuck on the side of the road I would reuse those pistons.
Also KEEP the cage.

i dont think i have any water damage because the oil on the pistons and in the case looked good when i drained it.
all the junk was inside of the heads themselves.

the engine is in pretty rough condition and it would take a minimum of $600 to get it into running condition, so what im going to try to do is find a good running 1400-1500cc single port and use the dual port heads and manifold from the engine i have now and convert it, ill prolly get some 1600cc cylinders and pistons too.

it doesnt make sense to drop a bunch of money into this engine when i can get a good running one for less.

and i do plan to keep the cage ill need it for the ford zetec or 2.3 swap.

how would you guys suggest i strengthen the frame horns?

i was think i would do like hibbard says and weld the seams, and where the forks meet the chassis gusset it and weld the seems.

what if i took a square steel tube and cut it along two of the corners so it makes a V shape the weld that on the bottom of the horns ??

kinda like this except it would be a little flatter than the V
___
V

Angle iron is what most use. Much easier than trying to cut square tubing lengthwise.

but i hung on to it and now i have a little renewed motivation.

i pretty much have just done a ton of patching and i think im getting close to having the body done, maybe a couple more weeks and it should be good.
i hope so anyway cuz im so tired of welding patches that its ridicules.

i have a bunch of pictures that ill try and post tonight, but right now im going to go out to the garage and do some more welding.

i had to cut the sides of the heater channels off cuz they were so rusted

[img][/img]
[img][/img]

i used vw body metal from the other car (door panels) for most of the patching that i have done.
i bent a 90* into the metal and then welded it onto the heater channel sides.

You're doin' good, man! Keep up the momentum!

IMAGE hint- when you copy and past the "img" line of script from photobucket, the image tags that photobucket has attached to it will suffice over here in the thread. It looks like you're adding another set from here- unnecessary. That's why all your pics have visible IMG tags next to them. Smile

I think you have a toe in problem with your car. That will be a little hard on the tires, other than that great progress.

Laughing Laughing yea my steering box was slipping so i took it out. i have another one from my parts car that i need to put in.

the driver side inner-tube was popped but i think that other than that my tires are strait.

i have non-radial, tubed tires in the front....will that be a bad thing? not having radials? (in the back i do have radials tho)
