I am looking to buy a baja for the first time and I am wondering if I am being overly optimistic. I am hoping to find something in the area of $2000 or less that I could use as a daily driver and then some family fun on the weekend. Is that a reasonable budget? I have seen many on CL in Phoenix and here in Tucson but I am worried that I will get into something that ends up costing a lot more. My other option is '67 body and pan that I was given an maybe could get it running for under my budget but time is an issue with baby on the way.

Any advice would be helpful.

Thank You

You can find something reasonable for 2K if you're patient, and if you are selective. You can also find one less that needs some work, and put some cash and time into it. Bugzyla.com would be a great start. Call Daryl and see if he has or knows of anything. He'll lead you in the right direction.

However....

Be forewarned: This is an addictive habit. 2 grand is just the beginning.......

And be careful when you're shopping- it seems like MANY bajas are priced ridculously high for what they are. Good deals ARE out there, you just have to be ready to pounce when you identify one.

Thanks for the advice. That is exactly what I was hoping to hear, including the addictive part. This is being seen as a hobby amongst the other things that I stated.

I know it is hard to tell from a picture and description but what do you guys think. If it is good hopefully it isn't gone by the weekend.

Looks overpriced for AZ. Would be a deal here in UT.

For a daily driver if the brakes and suspension are in good shape and if it is really a new engine (reciepts) it might be worth it. Don't expect the engine to last long pulling 33" tires. A 1600 should be turning 28" tires and still have an oil filter and thermostatically controlled full flow external oil cooler. The plus is it does not have to go through emissions and the minus is the swingaxle if your going to go fast off road.

I think I am going to try make the trip to Phoenix to check it out this weekend. Any advice for what to look at and the best way to test things out would be greatly appreciated. He has told me that it grinds going into 3rd sometime but is other wise good. A buyers guide or list would be a great sticky for us newbies. I am going to make a list from CL for many to look at while I am there.

Thanks again for the help I love all the info I am finding here.

I would rather waste a day than end up feeling like an E Bay sucker that spent top dollar for a parts car. Smile

Hell, I drive almost to Tucson just for some decent Mexican food (Oracle Junction). Listen to perrib and make the drive to not get burned.

Unless you know exactly what you want and what it's worth then wait for a real deal like (proseatz car) that everyone says they wish they had the money for.
