Happy new year all,

I'm looking for some feedback on the use of heavy duty torsion leafs in a link pin beam on a baja. They are claiming to be 20% stiffer than stock. Has anyone used them? Did you like em or?? What is the ride like and how much rise in the front end can one expect? Would a cut n turn or adjuster be the better way to go?

I don't personally have any experience with them, but everyone I know that has used them says that they're way too stiff. One option to resolve this is to only replace one set, so you get 50% of the effect. You definitely need to either cut and turn the beam, or install adjusters if you're running an off-road car, and if you have the technical ability, adding a bit of angle to the front beam by shimming out the bottom one will add ground clearance and better handling in the corners.

Thanks for the info 57Baja. My build, when finished won't see much off road time. Still, I'm looking to get some height in the front end without sacrificing the ride to much.

Looking at other options, say like a stock width warrior bean with 8" shock towers and adjusters. Can these style beams utilize stock torsion leafs, trailing arms, LP carriers etc?

They will. The trick is just to raise it enough to lift the car but no more. Stiffer leaves are not progressive and don't smooth out the ride until with the right shocks your going 30 mph or more mph through rough terrain. Progressive coil overs can give a much better ride. Using 30" tall front tires also helps.

To add to perrib's post....

The tires help especially when aired down. I run 12 PSI on the front of mine, even on the pavement. Yes, they'll drag a little more and wear out a bit faster, but they are, "Oh, so smoooooth".

I also round around 12psi in the front and around 18 to 20psi in the rear. 1 front tire has a load limit of somthing like 1950lb and the rears I think are 3000lb each... I can turn my car into a uniBaja and ride on 1 wheel and still not over load the tire.

You will find it's harder to turn with the low air pressure. But it will drive better on the street to. If you fill the tires all the way up to 35psi the car rides like it's on basket balls and will bounce.

Thanks for the info guys. I've been checking further into the warrior beams and thinking I'll put one on my baja as soon as I save up the money for one. Thinking I'll pick one up with the adjusters so I can play with the ride/hight combination on my baja. It would also allow me to put some better shocks on. Thinking thats the way to go. Thanks for all you input guys, much appreciated!
