Start a thread in the Electrical forum, and ask as many questions as you want! If you start a thread in the proper forum, you'll get a LOT more traffic, and a lot more help. Cool

Here ya go. Start to finish, pretty much. In depth, with pics and EVERYTHING. The finished product from this article was a NICE baja.

I read all the way through this post and since no one else mentioned it I thought it might be a good idea to tell you to plug up your heater air outlets in your fan shroud or you're going to fry the engine.

I've actually read the best action for this is to plug the outlets, but drill a 3/4" hole in the plugs. I believe it was Raby who discovered this gives better airflow through the shroud. Of course the best advise is a OEM shroud without the outlets, or a DTM if you $$ for it.

A 3/4 inch hole in the plug..., interesting. I'd like to see that information, not because I doubt what you say, just that I'd like to see why they would suggest it. For sure though, I think it'd be agreed, plugged outlets are better than no plug.

I read it quite some time ago in the samba performance section.

I'd say it has to do with causing some backpressure in the shroud, and therefore enhancing airflow- sort of a siphoning effect, if you will. Venturi effect probably plays in to the equation as well. The principle is probably similar to that of exhaust systems, etc.

Seems like it'd RELIEVE some back pressure not cause it. A venturi effect might make some sense if the mass flow rate has effectively been restricted by plugging the outlets to a point where it would need the relief created by drilling a hole(s) in the plug(s). Until someone does more research (and really I doubt anyone will Rolling Eyes ) I think I'd stick with just plugging them up. In the past I've seen freeze plugs used but the cheapest, and just as effective I'm sure, was a couple of baby food jar lids held in place with some machine screws. Of course here in the High Sierra I'll be running heater boxes anyway so I'm just speculating Rolling Eyes .

I would call and ask. They are very nice.

they are also different styles and thicknesses. If it were mine I would use the extra thick wide eye kit. www.chircoestore.com/c...ts_id=1805
