Did you have a hard time pushing your solar powered motor home with the BAJA?

I figure I should finally get on the stick an learn how to post Pics and give updates on my progress.
Photo shows my Baja just after I purchased it in South West AZ. It is just before the long tow home to NY.
The two Germans got along fine on the long haul.

I had thought of getting one of those signs for the rear Baja window that says " I am pushing this MH as fast as I can"
Seriously, besides wanting a Baja one of the nice thigs is its very light weight. Not having a big powerful class A MH required some serious thought about what I could tow. Or if I should tow something at all! I don't know what the Baja weighs but it has to be under 2,000 pounds. Considering the versatility of the Baja combined with the weight there could not be a better vehicle available to tow behind a small rig like mine.

Well, for some reason the alignment shop had all sorts of problems getting my alignment done. Finally got it somewhat within specification with the exception of a lot of Pos. caster. Also had to bring it home and redo the rear torsion index. Now it is at one outer spline instead of one inner spline.
The big surprise however is the wheels/tires. After buying around 12 wheels I finally got four that are 4 1/2 wide. All others were 4 inches wide. I had the tires swapped from the 9 spoke chrome wheels that were on the car to the stock wheels tonight. WOW!!! Does it look weird. Especially the rears. Tires look lost inside the fender wells. It actually feels like it handles better though. Especially the steering. Its late so no Pics. I think I am too embarrassed to post Pics!
Do Baja kits come with different width fenders? Maybe mine are a real wide kit or something and I never realized it with the 8 inch wide 9 spokes on the rear. I keep reminding myself that it should function OK despite what it looks like.
I will need to do something in the future. Gotta look at some Pics of other Baja's I guess. Hell, it would look better with stock fenders. Can I atatch them with the rear apron cut off?
ANYBODY, HELP!!!

Pics tomorrow, maybe.

What drivetrain does your moho have? I just acquired a '96 E350-based 28' Class C with a 460 Ford, and am curious how it'll tow. I'll be pulling my 16' tandem-axle flatbed with either quads on it (dunes) or the baja on it for other camping trips.

If I was more mechanically inclined and had more time (and $$$), I'd convert the motorhome to a 7.3 Powerstroke. Smile

I have talked to many RVers that have the Ford 460. Many with class A MH much larger than yours. Almost all are towing pick ups or full size cars. Also my experience has been if they have any space available they put something in it. I have been amazed at the weight some people load their rigs up with. I don't think you will have any problems with power. One common comment I hear on the 460 is it loves fuel.
Our rig is a 24 foot Itasca built on a 2006 Mercedes chassis. Like the FedEx trucks running around except the MH is a 3500 series. Power is a 5 Cyl. in line diesel. One of the the reasons I chose the VW to tow was because of its light weight, and flat towing I have nearly zero tongue weight. The MH is not way below GVW empty, so I am very careful about loading it or adding tongue weight.
Maybe our paths will cross this winter.

You have some nice rear fenders that actually look like they fit wide tires.

Bring your wide tires with you. They will be needed for the sand washes.

Perrib,
I didn't change the tires. Jut switched to stock wheels. Used the same exact tires that were on the car.
I will put up a Pic. But you will die laughing.

Hooked the Baja behind the MH today and took it for a ride just to check things out. Re Installed the steering damper first. Happy to say that the Baja does return to straight after turns without apparent difficulty. Tried sweeping turns at highway speed and very sharp slow speed turns in a large parking lot.
Looks like we will depart on Tuesday morning. Four days late. Oh well.
Hope our path will cross some of the members here when we reach AZ.

I tow my Baja with a Jeep Cherokee with no problems, Well not realy... The jeep does not have the mass to stop well with the Baja in tow. Somthing as large as a motorhome should not be a problem. What do you have for a tow bar?

The tow bar I have came with the car when I bought it last year in your neck of the woods. ( Well, I guess there are not too many woods in south west AZ) It is the standard bar that has two saddles that fit under the lower front beam. Worked fine all the way to NY. It uses a 1 7/8 inch ball. I would prefer a 2 inch but the bar came with the car. I think that they only make the bar in 2 inch ball size now.
Finally leaving tomorrow, I hope.
