I'm looking to replace the seats in my baja and was wondering what there might be out there that would be really close to a straight bolt-in or maybe something that's pretty easy to switch over to the bug seat bases. Due to lack of funds right now I'm mainly looking at wrecks and any throw-aways like derby car builders always have laying around. Also any types of cars/trucks whose seats I should just stay away from? I don't want end up riding around looking like one of those punk "gangstas" or some poor ol' grandma looking under the wheel and over the dash. lol Something I can sawzall and/or drill and bolt preferably, I'm out of acetylene and access to a wire feed is pretty spotty w/ my schedule.

I have put in many seats from Rabbit seats up to Dodge PU bucket seats in Beetles. The problem is modern seats do not have the tall seat base a VW T-1 has. I suppose a base could be bolted together and diagonally braced until you had time to weld it.

I've not had the opportunity to tear into any VW seats so far....could a person take the actual seat off the tall base and replace it w/ something close? Or, is that more trouble than it's worth?

Look into a PT cruzer. My moms PT GT Turbo has some nice seats and the seats sit up high too.

Not sure how wide the seats are but I do think a set will fit in a bug and there are tons of PT's out now.

That is the easiest way to do it. It works well for later model VW seat swaps. Unless it is the triangulated seat track from the later pans you still have the weak seat tracks that can pull out
in an accident. It also requires welding which Bajagill is trying to avoid.

99 & up cavalier seats. We have put 5 or 6 sets in bajas and they work great. They are the right width, comfy, and are easy to mount. All you need are 2 inch spacers, we use the empi shock bosses that cost $1 each. If you watch craigslist you can pick up a pair of seats in great shape for $75 to $125

thanks guys, appreciate the input! I was also remembering some of the old Ford van seats that had the tall base on them. The seats weren't the greatest but it would still be a step up from what's in there now.
