I only have around $1000 to spend. I'm not looking for an instant fix-up, just something I know that can either sit under shelter, or an engine sitting in my garage until i get more $$ to fix it up fully. If anyone could help me search for a running engine or a good body (or even better a fully working bug, but I have my doubts that'd happen) that'd be splendid. I have seen a $300 body on craigslist, http://atlanta.craigslist.org/eat/cto/1389866690.html, I was wondering if this would be a decent buy and hope I could find an engine? I'm not exactly sure.
I live in Ga, about an hour out from Atl, so I'll go through most of the state if anyone finds an engine/body, just not too far out.

Not sure about availability in your area, but that looks like a good solid car for $300. I'd jump on it. Cheap, running engines are generally plentiful. I think for your $1000 budget you could have a decent driver starting with that car.

I was wondering, what type on engines can be dropped in a bug? Sorry for the question, this would be my first vehicle that isn't a truck.

It doesnt look like a bad deal but if your not familiar with bugs you might look for something more complete (dash, complete wiring).. If I was going to spend money Id try to find a complete car, maybe not running but that was running and driving so you dont run into probls like wiring harnesses and what not... at least if the car is complete you start with everything that should be there being there and not trying guess what parts are needed... a complete non running car should be able to be found for 500, and like kyle said a running one for 1000, but I wouldnt expect a whole lot for 1000-- just watch for rust(especially the floor pan) and get a title....

how about this one: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=828611. Found a friend that'll come with me to go get it, was wondering if y'all would recommend me getting that instead of a body and engine separately.

The good- has motor and runs
has irs (independant rear suspension) which is preferrred for offroading
is probably complete

the bad-
possible emissions (dont know you local laws)
doesnt mention title or rust-

if it has a good title and good floors then i would definatly go for the second one

anyone else see something to worry about??

Nope. My oh-so-lovely 01 Ranger didn't it needs a new thermostat, and I two tires popped the other day. So now I get to save up the money again. Sad
as soon as I get one I'll post the info up; sucks so much.
