Well, Saturday the wife and I took it up to Peters Mill Run Trail on the GW National Forest for some off roading,,,, FINALLY!!! Cool
Stalled the engine on a steep and rocky hill then popped the e-brake button/linkage out trying to get her re-started. We definately warmed up the clutch on that one. The smell stayed with us. The rest of the trip went ok except for a few "pucker" moments where the rocks got a bit large and not much room to steer around.

Well perrib (assuming your asking me), I have a few but I've reached my bandwidth limit with the free photo site for the month. I guess all those photos from the Bug Out maxed me out. I don't have many 'cause the wife said she was too busy hanging on Laughing so what I have are just quick stops in safe places. I will post them as soon as I can.

That reminded me that I had another account elsewhere that I use very little.
BTW. I towed it with the Jeep since this place is an hour and a half away and in case broke some thing.
Here you go.
This is in the parking lot:

This was the easy part.

Later on we met terrain that was 10x rougher and on steep inclines.

We ran the 7.2 mile trail which dumps out onto pavement. We then ran back via pavement to save time as we had another commitment to get to.

We met several bikes/ATV's and a couple Jeeps along the way. I think they were VERY SURPRISED to see a VW Bug out there. That part was very Cool !!!

Now we are back at the parking lot.

A little mud was found

This was my first time off roading in a Baja or any other car/truck for that matter. I grew up on dirt bikes so the terrain was similiar but different in a car, hence the pucker moments I mentioned earlier.
We plan on returning soon but we decided to go the other direction. I also plan on doing a better job of capturing the next event. I need to eigther assist the wife in keeping her stationary or borrow a video camera.

Spare tire, Odd mount, post some photos on it, and how why etc. people might look at this as a new option...

Well sir, that's purely out of need and nothing else. I had to find some where to put it until I buy or build a roof rack. As to the mount, the tire is just sitting on top of the two front bumper tubes that run down and tie into the front beam mount bolts. I then strap it down with a motorcycle type strap.
It's a pita since I have the plug for the lights (for towing) running behind the cowl. Plus I plan on installing surf rod holders on the bumper so the tire has to go elsewhere.

I changed my coilover springs to a heavier size. Put roll cage padding in. Stared at it more.

I sat in my Dodge looking at the rear end thinking," I really need to get rid of those ugly lights that ding-dong slapped on there!" Must be time for another window shopping trip on the 'net. Sure wish we had a swap meet closer than 250 miles away. The last one near us was on a day I had to work Mad

Well I didnt do anything picture worthy, but here is what I did do...... I installed the brake master cylinder and finished up the brakes, started to bleed them but didnt quite finish that, should have it completed today. Installed the pedal assembly, clutch cable, throttle cable and fabbed the linkage, wired the tail lights into the rear bumper, got all of the headlights and kc lights sorted out and made sure they worked, got the fuel system done with the exception of mounting the fuel pump. I will start the wiring process today, and try to get the other rear fender roughed in. After the car is wired I need to mount the oil filter and fill the motor with oil and then break it in. Chirco sent me the rubber for the windows and it should be here monday. Its gunna be close but I hope to still make the Chirco show. Cool

Got the new CV boots installed and took the baja out for some road miles to test things out. Front end likes to wander a little, reminds me of my old jeep. Still doesnt shift the way I want it to. And havin some issues with the carbs. Runs like a beast full throttle though! Smile

Never ran good enough to bother takin offroad yet, but hopefully next weekend!
