I've seen one in the Sterling area at a gas station a few times but not lately.

Looks like VA bajas are few and far between.

I'm in SW Virginia and am just getting started on my Baja build. I've only ever seen 1 other Baja around these parts.

I know what you mean useless. I've seen one another Baja about 5 miles from my house at a repair station. I wanted to stop by and chat but at the time my Baja wasn't quite road-ready. Now I haven't seen it in weeks. I'll stop by any way next time I head that direction and see if I can locate that person. I did see a couple at the Bug Out in Manassas Va a couple weekends ago. Check out the thread under Events and Get Togethers.

Any-hoo. Welcome to the site and keep us informed on your build. These guys are phenominal when it comes to knowledge and experience.
PLUS. We like pic's..... Post them in the Project and Builds section or start a My Garage and place them there.

BTW. Paying AzBaja members get a 10% discount at Chirco. Very good deal.

Thanks for the welcome. I didn't make any of the Bug Outs this year, was hoping to take my '70 Ghia, but I ended up selling it before the spring bugout.

Here's my '70, just getting started. It's a complete car if you doun't count floor pans. Hope to have the pans replaced and have it running again before it gets cold out.

I hope to have the car together enough to take it to the Outer Banks next Summer, we go down there every year and I've yet to get all the way out on the beach. My Subaru wagon does well in the sand but just runs out of ground clearance.

WOAH! Looks like she needs some work. Well, you're going to chop a bit off anyway.
Yep, had to do both pans, passenger side heater channel. Ended up putting a 3" body lift kit on while the body was off.

I took mine down to OBX this summer only to discover that the 'el cheapo pressure plate and clutch disk I put in wouldn't turn the tires in the sand. Not to mention that I couldn't get it up past 45 mph on pavement. That's no longer an issue. So next year I'll take it again to OBX and hopefully will do fine. I'm hoping to do more than a pavement test here some weekend soon.

What time frame do you go to OBX?

Yeah, really, the worst stuff I don't need anyhow. Rusted aprons.... cutting 'em off, missing running boards....headed for the trash anyhow. I pretty much planned on having to do pans with anything I bought, so I ended up with this car than ran 2-3 years ago and a '69 bug minus engine for $300. Between the two I should be able to come up with a decent Baja.

What's clutch did you end up with? I'd hate to get down there just to go thru the same thing.

We normally go down there around the last week of August, first of September, it's just so much cheaper. Though next year we may go down in June, before the summer rates kick in. Usually rent a house in the Waves/Salvo area.

I installed a Kennedy Stage 1 1700lb pressure plate and Kush Loc disk. Feels like it has lots of grab now.

We usually go down to OBX between late June to late July. I know, prime season and prime rates. Unavoidable due to the wife and sister in law working for different school systems. Last year the wife and I went down again but alone for an anniversary trip in late Sept. Your right, a whole lot cheaper but man were the mosquitoes bad. That may have been due to the hurrican that was brewing off the Gulf Coast at the time too. Apparently they had a lot of rain before we got there.

Any way, keep us posted.
