Hi, My name is David. I have been interested with air cooled VWs off and on for pretty much all my life. Mostly bugs and busses, but recently, my brother bought a couple 181 Things and got me hooked on them. I now have his two Things and bought another one back in April.

I was looking for a way to lift my car when I ran your site. I am totally hooked on offroading now. Now I just want to get my Thing jacked up enough to get some bigger tires under it and then start on a Baja Bug. I think I have a ’68 I can use.

This weekend my brother and I will be switching bodies on the Thing. In the process I will be attempting to put a 3" body lift on it fabricated by us. I will be taking pictures a post for all who want to see (Success or failure).

You sound like a great group of guys and you have helped me more than you know already. Thanks.

So, I think that the lift would have gone ok, but over estimated my welding skills and Just don't have the time to invest (and I need the car). I did not get to swap the body either. I just don't want to be rushed and half ass it. I may have the better body media blasted and put a bunch of new stuff on it (like wiring Harness mine is a complete hack job.) Need to have it running by Wednesday. (the in-laws need their Jeep back)

I did regasket the engine, installed new shift rod bushings, shift rod coupler, nose cone repair kit, and steering coupler.
