I am looking at a Bug and will probably take the plunge . I am most worried about the security of engine parts since that area seems to be vulnerable to those low lifes that often shop using the "five finger discount". Bottom line : Is there a product that can discourage folks from leaving me stranded at Wal-Mart ? Thank you .

Replace it with a Ford engine once it's VW engine is stolen. That is what I did...Takes less than 5 minutes to steal the VW engine.

I Think there is still a special bolt called and engine lock you can buy from chirco's

I am really interested in how you did this and what you used. I don't want to hijack this thread so could you PM me some info.

As far a securing you engine I've never tried it myself, but maybe a couple of well place tack welds or cover the bolt heads with JB weld. Makes it harder for you to take out the engine if you need too, but it would make it really hard to remove in the Wal-mart parking lot.

I have seen guys use wire cable and make chokers that go around each head that get looped through tie-ins on the rear tube (torsoin tube) it's something you can make yourself if you have the right crimpers from the Depot. It has worked at the dunes for these guys for years. The midnighters would have to have a pair of bolt cutters with them to get it out then. Which if you think about it, if they want it bad enough - they will just take the whole car. Or if they can't get what they want, they will just trash what they can't take. Either way they are douchebags! ! !

Speaking of taking the whole car, i just remembered my brother had someone attempt to steel a baja the he had. Seems all you have to do is hook the positive terminal of the coil to a rear tail light then turn the lights on and push start the car and away they go. The thing that saved him though was that he had the mechanical fuel pump bypassed with an electric pump that only ran with the key on. He found his bug parked in another area of the lot with the light on an that is how he figured out what happened.

My brother used to do that to me all the time in high school. My beater Camaro did not need a key to start, he would take it while I was in school or practice, usually bring it back after running it almost out of gas. One time he got wasted and fell asleep at home. I walked 2 miles home and found it there. I was quite ticked off.

Well , I did it . I bought it today . It's a '69 with a "cleaned up" 1600 . I saw cleaned up since when I was younger old engines were bored just a tad to clean up the walls . This is right at 1635 . As to my first post I was worried about componants being taken . Things like carb , generator etc.. I will need a roof rack for hunting trips that will last a few days . Light stuff BUT not a cheapie . The tires are totally new and I got 4 more to boot . I'll get back with more info as soon as I get "nitty gritty" with it . I bought it without a whole lot of looking since I know this person very well . If there is anything that needed noticing it's the fact that I wouldn't want to pay him by the hour . He agonizes over stuff and will not allow anything to be called FINISHED until it is as perfect as can be . What I can be sure of so far is :new engine , new tires and at least 150 hours labor . I'll get back with info/questions soon . Thanks .

I will have it home tomorrow . My wife is the camera guru and will take them ASAP . It is not a showboat but it has potential . The paint job is amatuer but it was bought for getting to hunting/prospecting spots that have heretofore eluded my .44mag./metal detector . Beauty was not a consideration . I do however , promise to keep it as clean as possible .

you got to make like a photo bucket account and then you go to the picture and there is a image code and you can copy and past it into the txt box and then click submit and the pictures should be there.
