Ok guys this stock 69 bug was bought as a driver that the PO couldnt figure out why the car was running like crap, he thru a bunch of money at it (09 dizzy, new coil, rebuilt carb, voltage regulater)if you gave it a shot of starting fluid it would fire. I paid $400 for it, drug it home stuck a fuel line from the pump into a can of gas and it fired right up, fuel line was plugged somewhere in the tunnel. I bought this in 05 with the thought of making a baja out of it to leave at my vacation home in Parker Az. Never got around to doing much but yanking the interior out and finding that there was quite a bit of rust in the luggage compartment shelf and passenger side pan. So I knew I wanted to go with a link pin beam so I decided to cut out and change both pans, front cross member and a new link pin frame head. I dont have any pics of the deconstruction because my computer crashed a few months ago and I lost all my pics that I didnt have saved to photo bucket, so we will start with todays progress.
Got all the final welding done on the pan.

Finished patching the luggage compartment shelf.

This is the body as it sits now after cutting it up.

There was some rust damage around the bottom of the back window that I fixed. Im pretty sure that is how all the water got in to rust the floor and luggage compartment.

I've got a one piece front and a three piece fiberglass rear kit. Thats about it. Im going to clean and rattle can the pan tomorrow then start working on the inside of the body. Im unemployed right now so I've got to keep my spending in check. But as soon as I get back to work bring on the suspension.

Enjoy Ed

Finally got the pan seam sealed and in primer.

Not sure what im going to do for final finish on the under side, maybe just bed line it all top and bottom. Well on to the inside of the body with a wire wheel to get rid of all the left over insulation and surface rust.

Any luck on the employment?
If so, any progress on the Baja?

That would be a big no on the employment. And just started messing with the baja again the last couple day's, trying to clean up the inside ( man that upholstery glue is a pain in the a$$ to get off ) and i found that the A pillers are rusted out down at the heater channel's so they are going to have to be patched. Rolling Eyes

Anyway's its going to be slow going for awhile.

Back at it again, patched the rusted A piller's and got the inside primered.

Cut the new frame head off Rolling Eyes and patched the hole, then set the body back on the pan.

I sold a bunch of the old part's like the complete beam, trans, carb and some other stuff and bought a class 11 cage & 6" wider beam.

I didnt like the way the B piller hoop was cut into three pieces so i ordered up some tubing and bent one up.

And off we go building the cage.

That's it, should have more pics after the long weekend.

Well got about as far as i can with still being able to pick the body off the pan alittle bit to weld the top's of the cage, the door bar's are going to bend out over the heater channel's to give some more room for the seat's.

With the lower front bar's notched it look's like the beam will end up
6-3/4" forward.

Lifted the body and welded everything that has been done so far.

Once the body was back on and the cage was bolted back down I welded the front bar's to the cross member and then it was beam time.

I leaned the beam back around 3- 31/2 degrees.
