Look what I found... it's a 1966, straight as an arrow for the most part. NO RUST whatsoever on the body or pan, just a little in the back wheels, but they will be replaced and so will all the brakes. I'm not sure what route I'm going to take exactly, thought about getting the wide rear fenders and an aluminum drag style wing, or doing a full race baja, or some type of rat rod, chop top thing.. We'll see but first I'm going to wire and put a motor in it so I can see if I have any immediate issues.
The interior is BARE, the pan was powder coated in a nice blue on the inside. The interior has a steering wheel, an Empi shifter, and a nice evenly coated dust layer from sitting in the guys back corner of his work shop for the last 20 years. I bought 2 highback vw seats freshly redone for 10 bucks... it's going to be a slowish project but done right Smile
he gave crates full of extra parts, I still need to sift through it all and see what's usefull to me.
I'm going to get in it with the garden hose and some simple green either friday or saturday and clean it all up, strip the little bit of wiring that's in it, and let it sit in the sun for a good afternoon to dry... than Sunday I"m going to see what I can do about a pedal cluster and brakes... for now I'm going to replace the shoes in the drums, re do the lines, and master cylinders, etc..
So what do you all think?

I'm going to keep a list of the parts I buy and the price as well.

Bug, W/ parts $375
VW highback seats $10.00

total $385

Pretty excited about this one..

P.S. Sorry about the bad pictures,it's in my back workshop and I couldn't move all the stuff for just some pictures, When I take it out this weekend I'll use my good camera and show some better shots.

lmao!!...i would go baja, it looks like its already got the baja kit on it. if your going to go full race i would limit yourself to a 5/1600 car. its still practical for the street and it also wont drain your bank account as bad. 1600cc engines are a dime a dozen and are cheap. im sure you have seen my car, if not go to the visual stimulation thread in general discussion.

bajas are alot of fun and you can go anywhere...a slammed out race bug is limited to the street.

also, just get the rebuild kit. it comes with everything to rebuild your breaks. way worth it. you may also want to think about converting your rear end over to IRS also if your going baja

my opinion is go baja

Yeah, it's definately been cut.. If I went street, than I would just put a drag wing on it and leave the rear open... I'm going to go drag it out today and clean her all up and see what all my brake job is consist of....

breaks are easy...if your going to rebuild them than i would go ahead and put all new parts in there while your at it. it will only benifit you.

Ok so I did a few hours of work today, I cleaned out the interior. I sifted through all these crates of parts, lots of break drums,(wide 5 and 4 lug) found a shifter, (extra one) a glove box door that's surprisingly in good condition. some axles w/ cv's... a pedal cluster, I also have an extra windshield.. I have the rear scoop thing for by the rear window but I may not use it. thought about doing a spare tire rack there that hinges out of the way when I need it to. Now it's time to save some money and get my break kits.. I'm also gonna get a new master cylinder and all new steel braided lines, so I have no worries. While I'm doing the breaks, I'm going to paint the wheels.(Orange and black spokes w/ a Lime green dish and lip)

That's what it will look like, but alot cleaner.. I drew it in paint.. not the best photoshop but hey it gives a good idea..

It may be a few weeks before I get to the brakes because I'm trying to paint my DD hyundai so my 450 bucks in my bank account will be gone as of monday Sad but hopefully maaco's commercial of a $199 start price isn't crap.

I found front and rear brake kits for like 70 each on Chirco, any where else I should look?

I'll post some pictures tomorrow.. in the daylight..
