They're really quite easy. The hardest part it running a signal wire from the negative side of the coil to the dash.
I zipped tied mine to the wiring harness. (normally a green wire)
Red goes to key on power.
Black is ground.
The other wire is for the interior lights, goes to the headlight switch (blue? I think)

It's pretty easy, really. Just set it to the "4 cyl" setting, run a wire to the coil, cut a hole in the dash, you're good to go. I personally like the Autometer stuff.

I've actually never run a tach in my Bajas, they're so loud it's pretty easy to know which gear you should be in. Wink

I used a small Sun tach prom pep boys. I used a fishwire/tape (harbor freight) and ran wire through the roof line at the drip rail on the passenger side. I ran enough wire to add any gauges I want down the road. Like it was already said that was the hardest. I did mount it under the dash. I ran probably 8-10 wires total. I just coiled and stowed the extra wire until I am ready. The small tach was about 30 bucks works great. I was azmazed to see that even when I thought I was getting on it I was still just under 4500 rpm which is safe. I just couldn't see spending 100+ for a tach for the baja. Maybe for the Duster Shocked

Some tips on tachs, In both my race cars I mounted the Tach up high were you can see the thing. It does you no good to be looking at the floor when your in a race, I would think the same thing would go when you drive on the street. I also had all my gages rotated so that when the car is running perfect the needles would point straight up. The reason for this is the car is vibrating shacking etc. and the numbers realy mean nothing at this point. Your looking for a good or no good and if you look and see every thing pointed straight up, you know your good. Last idotlights!!! Not as cool as the big round dials, But the truth is that a big read or amber light on the dash is real easy to spot over a set of guages...

My old circle track car had a old fender blinker I mounted at the very front of my hood centered on the steering wheel. That light was hooked into the idiot lights, this way I could look at the dirt on the track just over the front of the hood and if any thing was wrong the amber fender blinker light would turn on and it's in a place that I can see it very easy.

My guages in the Baja are set in just the normal fashon,

For the kids that do not know wht a fender blinker is...
