Hey all,
My name is brett. I am aquiring a bug this saturday if everything goes as planned, so i wont make this a long post. Im 37, a guy and im a machinist. Ive been a ford guy for a long time but dont hold it against me . The bug is a 69 and i have plans to turn it into a baja on a somewhat long timetable. Im mechanically inclined and have rebuilt many conventional v-8 engines, but am VW stupid. I looked at this site and also for a "az vw bug forum' (non-baja as mine is standard right now)and this site was the number one suggestion in both cases, so I figured this is a good place to come. Id everything goes smoothly I will repost . But until I own it I wont 'bug' you guys any longer..

Thanks for reading and hope to join with the bug soon!!
-Brett

Ok guys- I got it today... From what I know it has a 1600 freshly rebuilt. Has lightened flywheel, counterbalanced crank, some sort of dual carb setup, 009 distributor (think it is electronic, under rotor looks like a disk that looks like a pickup of some type) and "chrome" coil (no markings)
. Has 'indexed' crank pulley. runs well. Also has new balljoints, shocks, rims and tires. New seats, doorpanels. everything seems to work electrically. only complaints are destroyed window rubbers, but then they are 40 yrs old. now lets see if I can post pics. I will probably be asking lots of basic questions unless I meet someone close by who can look at it and let me bounce questions off them.

Thanks again-
-Brett

Welcome!
She looks good. Seems a shame to cut her up for a Baja even tho I'm primarily a Baja fan.

I ran into one that was wrecked a bit in the front so I wasn't so worried about cutting her down for Baja. Well, it was cut a little before me but I needed to "trim" it a bit more.

Any ways. Good luck with the build.
You are at the right place for LOADS of knowledge/experience.
Keep posting pic's. We are pic addicts.... Cool

I know I'm kind of far for either of us but I speak for myself when I say this & I think everyone here will agree that this site is pretty cool and there is alot of knowledge in front of you when visiting this place. I have 7 project bajas going on right now in various stages and like Cole said, your are going to be hooked once you get started. It does look like a pretty clean car to chop up but like the one guy asid - I'm knid of partial to bajas myself too. If you have any questions don't hesitate to call.

Later dude and welcome to the family. Everyone here is really cool.

Hey guys-
thanks for the info-- after driving it for about 50 miles I LOVE THIS CAR...
I think i will not chop it up, its nice as is... that being said I hope that keeping it as is wont piss anybody off.. I was reading some of the baja posts today that were saying things about handling once you raise it up and start chaniing things... I think I will use it to learn vw's in general and rather trade it off for a baja or get a project car and use it to learn from... OK, thanks for letting me participate on the site-- I will start posting simple dumb questions in other catagories, so please tolerate me unless someone is close by to answer a lot of sim0ple questions. I have a neighbor behind me who always has 2 bugs and now has a bus he is restoring, I will go see him tommorrow.... OK. but I will post a 20 dumb questions thread tommorrow... Not trivia, just trivial questions...
Thanks-
-Brett
