Ok. I am open to suggestions. Originally, I was gonna paint my '62 Ragtop Baja in the same color that it is now. (Yella...or yellow to some!) Now, I am thinking about maybe doing it in a different color. Camo was suggested, but my lovely bride of 33 years shot that idea down.

I also know that PINK IS OUT!

Any other suggestions? This will not be a show car, but a daily driver and dunes/trail runner from time to time. So, I may want to paint it a bright color that is easier to see in the Phoenix area roads, from mountian tops or when I am lost...

You could try some sort of 2 tone paint...or fire engine RED is always hot. I have even seen some do like a NY city Checker cab that looked real cool. Another one that was real cool was all white then the guy used a brush to splater piant onto it the from and sides. in Red, Blue and Yellow, That had a real cool pro look buch it was done on the cheap and held up well off road, it hid the scraches etc.

Or even go with a animal print still a kinda of camo.

Go with Zebra stripes. I almost did that to BugZyla, but then I found some inexpensive Viper Red paint and the rest is history.

Paint it gun metal gray but paint a German flag on the top, paint '62 on the doors, and Sargeant Schultz above the doors. Kinda a VW rip off of the General Lee.

School bus yellow is a eye popper. My first baja, I painted in Denver Bronco colors...reddish orange with white and blue stripes over the roof and down the sides. But that's kinda been done a few hundred times and variations now. The one paintjob that stands out in my gearhead mind was a early 70's "Cuda..oops..sorry, that's Plymouth Barracuda to you whippersnappers under 40....Anyhow, the car was divided in half from the front to the rear. One half was Hemi Orange, the other was bright white. Probaly more from the stance and bodystyle, but overall it just looked TOUGH!!!
My post are long because I'm old.

When you say that, There was an add with cuda that had every color you could get on it. It was striped about every 3" to 4" the the next color. ended up bing bout 12 to 13 colors on the car. looked od but it was also cool in it's own way.

MOPAR of the 70's had some wild colors. Mixed with vinyl tops that were flowered psychedelic patterns....
I recall seeing a just unloaded off the transport AAR Cuda in the purple grape color...black stripes down the sides, side exit exhuast with funny looking chrome tips and painted wheels...thought it was silly looking. Wish I had it sitting in my garage "as new" now. There's a clean 69-71ish bug in Sierra Vista AZ that looks like it has been literally dipped into a tie dye vat. It's a very well done job, seen it in a couple of pics in mags...guy drives it all the time.

oldfart,

You probably know what I am talking about when I tell you that when my wife & I were dating and first married, I drove a '64 Goat. Sure wish that I still had it...

I appreciate all of the suggestions on colors for my Baja and have an idea of how I may be painting it. Keep the ideas coming, though...you guys have great suggestions.

Oh yes. First job was in the parts room at a Pontiac dealer '69-71. Sister had a 65 GTO, tripower. Weird car, factory stock with no console, 3 speed(yep, 3 speed)on the floor. Saw alot of strange stuff, you could oder what you wanted back then....'70 Grand Prix, bench seat and column shift automatic...'71 GTO with radio/heater delete, but this was in Denver,Co.
We had to take the Judge emblems off new Judge GTO's....they were being stolen all the time. Actually they had a hard time selling Judges, and they weren't any different mechanically. We thought they were show, no go.
Neatest thing I saw tho was a factory zone car...that's a unit ordered by the regional zone office for their use. Usually loaded with everything....one evening this transport came in with a new '71 GTO Convertible. It was a very garrish aqua blue like metallic with the Judge style stripes over the wheelwells in a bright cantalope orange. Butt ugly. The guys raised the hood and were all standing around excited. It had the yet to be released, supposedly stopped in developement or whatever story you want to read..Ram Air V setup. different heads, header style exhaust manifolds..other goodies I don't recall. Zone office picked it up that night without any usual prepping, never saw it again. One of those gearhead myth stories I imagine, except I leaned on the fender of the car too.
Alot of other strange cars back then...but as usual my post is a book. sorry.
