I taped the bottom of my pan, and put in a thick coat of truck bed liner. otherwise, they are drain holes to help get water out. Smile

Replace the rusted out areas with fresh metal. If they are drilled holes from a previous modification, weld them up.

Me, I'm just buying a second Baja without holes. Very Happy

I'm too lazy to fix the extensive rust in the car I have, and then I won't feel guilty about DD'ing it in the winter.

But yeah, cut out the rust and weld in new patches, panels, whatever. That's the best way to fix them.

Kyle

Panels are sold in different sizes so you don't have to weld in to big pieces.

How big are the holes you're referring to, Dan? If they're just bolt/screw holes, then the tape/Herculiner things navynuke mentioned works pretty well, and is simple to do- no welding required. I did a LOT of that to my firwall...

the holes are bolt hole size.
3/4 in size to be exact there are like ten in the back that need filled then just a ton of little ones from random stuff over the years. so basically i need to tape off the bottom then come in with hurcilinear and go over all of it.

Oh yeah, for sure. I personally like to weld up even those small holes, but mostly because it provides welding practice (I NEED IT!). But it's really not necessary as long as you aren't dealing with nasty rusty repairs.

I had a lot of holes like that in my pan. from things bolted down and such. just use good tape under the holes, and tape it and slap on a good coat of paint or 3. I left the tape on mine, eventually it will fall off the bottom.

Oh- I used that aluminum tape. Buy it at Home Depot in the plumbing section where the air conditioning vents and ducting is (yes, that's the plumbing department!).
