So I picked up an all metal roof rack this past weekend at BUGORAMA. The whole plan was to make a rack to hold my bikes and a light bar and some other misc things. I decided to buy a rack rather than build from scratch cause tubing is too damn expensive and I wanted it to be bolt on. So here's what i've come up with so far:

It still needs to be finished welding, then eventually I will extend the back end to cover the roof a bit more and paint it and add some gussets. It will hold three 5" halogen lights, very similar to whats already on the front bumper. Should be light enough to not bounce its way off, but should be strong enough to hold some things.

i'm still working on it. hopefully i will extend the back section tomorrow, along with hopefully finishing up the welds.

this also has to be multi-functional, as i plan to put my bike up there, instead of hanging off the rear bumper.

i'll post more pictures as progress ensues.

I have all the tubing tacked together and almost finished.
I have about 50% of the welding left, its tedious though because i'm doing it with a gas welder and brazing it, because thats how the original rack was. I want it to look like it was made that way from the factory.

here's what I've gotten to:

it should be painted and completely finished by friday.

I finally got the welding finished and got it painted and put back on the car.
still need to wire the lights up but they're on there at least.

It looks great. Good work. I can't help but notice, is that a Karmann Ghia in the garage?

oh, i hole-heartedly know it is a sweet car. but when dad pays the mortgage on the home, he decides where the vehicles park, and the notch is first priority. Laughing

You can tell the car is nice by the plaques from car shows on the wall in the garage also!
