Well the time has come to rebuild the engine in my 65 street car. It has a 1776 that ran pretty darn good. with me driving the best 1/4 was a 15.13, but that was before i busted off one one of the rocker mounts on the head. I have had other problems with it too so it is time to replace it. My question is if Karls builds a good engine or should i look else were for a builder? Oh i want to be in the mid 13's so it better be a good build cause i would like to drive it around town every so often.

Rod and Mike at Karls are great guys but they do not port heads or balance engines so that would have to be subleted. You will also need a different tranaxle gearing. Your going to want a 2 liter to keep it easy to drive. Plan on putting some money in the heads. Mike Fischer and Steve Hollingsworth have flow benchs. Mike balances engines in house. Steve has a Stuska dyno. Steve can also build you a GB five speed. For the street I prefer a dry sump over a deep sump due to ground clearance. You will need 45 or 48 duals.
A 2386 with an Engle 120 cam should get you in the 13s and have great driveability without having to be in the correct gear since the stroker crank widens the powerband. An FK 8 has similar characteristics pulls more rpm and accelerates faster might even get you in the 12s. You can do 13s with a 1776 but it won't have good street manners.

Not sure if everyone is aware but a lot of us are doing our best to avoid Karls due to some unethical decisions made by Karl.

The short story is: Karl thought people were stealing from the store (Mesa store) so instead of investigate the theory, his idea was to fire everyone and hire all new people, well that's what happened, he fired everyone including a young woman who had worked for the Mesa Karls shop for years who happened to be in the hospitol at the time and was unaware of these supposed activities occuring at Karls, so while this young woman was laying in a hospitol bed she got news that she had been terminated and lost her medical insurance as well.

not the greatest news to hear while your waiting for medical attention.

I believe you would be better off taking your bug to either Dougs Bugs n Bunnies, or Bugzyla, both offer exceptional work and prices can be negotiated with the companies.

Good luck with your re-build!

If memory serves me correctly, this isn't the first time for a purge at the mesa location. Too bad, especially for the lady involved. Heard bad stuff about Karls at another site too.

dougs-bugs is a great motor place have had many friends get motors there and they are happy with what quallity work they have gotten from them.
bugzyla is very good for just about anything

Hey Bugzyla,

I have a good running motor. It just leaks every where. Is that something you fix?
