So I'm getting my standard bug( trading my super beetle) this weekend, suspension is what I want to do first so what is a good way t o go?In a month I'm going to have Bugzyla make a front king link front for me( thanks Bugzyla for letting me know about that) but what shocks will do good off road? Or what would be my next step after the front?I'm new to VWs but I'm loving the steps so far to building a good baja. Thanks again to AZbaja.

Coilover or torsion front/rear?

I'm running torsion front and rear, and have a NEW set of FOA shocks that I'm pretty happy with- lot of shock for less $$$ than King or Fox. Check out F-O-A.com (First Over All). They can set you up with SWEET coilover or non-coilover shocks. Hope you have the financial fortitude for this! Smile

Individually, they're not too bad. When you stand back and look at the finished product, you'll about crap yourself when you ponder the combined total, but that's just me.

Good luck, and have fun!

very very well said .... and i agree about the FOA's thats the route I went, havent tested em yet, but great reviews, good customer service, and a lot cheaper.

If you can go coilovers up front do it. The ride is far superior to any torsion setup. You can buy a warrior beam with coilover shock towers from almost anywhere. Additionally, if you live around Tucson you can see Steve Kuker at ADS. He has been offroad racing for years and makes a knockoff of a King shock that works great. I have them on the back of my car and they have never failed me.

If you go that route, reinforce them or you'll end up with bent shock towers like this. This was after one trip out.

I reinforced mine like this and they've been fine ever since!

I am getting my coilovers put on this week. Seperate parts are pretty cheap but 3x3 arms, heim joints, shocks, axles, trailing arms. Adds up very fast. I spent more than twice what I thought it would be.
