Hi. My name is Jeff and I'm a .....wait a minute....wrong forum... (yeah that jokes old, I know, but it's still funny!)

On Samba, I'm CopperBaja...I was going to paint my 1st project a copper color, then GM and every other major manufacturer must have gotten word of my plans and came out with a copper color of their own.

Anyway, sold my 1st project after I got a great deal on an abandoned one.

My project is on Samba, if you want to look me up there. I'm also on "bajabugs" Yahoo! group. Eric's link is what brought me to this site.

I hope to have my cage in soon and get some rides under my wheels this winter.

I come seeking knowledge and friends.

I'd like to lay down a blanket "Thank You" for any and all future assistance!

Thanks!
-Jeff

Yep. Santee(I prefer Santucky...I'm originally from KY) is in San Diego County....about 20 min from downtown San Diego.

When I got it:

Started a "simple" rewire....after troubleshooting the engine and getting it running. (the last and only time I drove it down the street)
Before:

Ended up cleaning up the front compartment....and got to here:

and installed new ignition, wiper control, and light switch...the dash still needs ALOT of work.

I upgraded using the Watson Streetworks kit....but when I started to run the wires through the interior....I decided to clean up the pan and install a bodylift. (2 1/2", I think)

From this:

to this:

Then I decided that I should have my rollcage installed professionally, rather than attempt it myself. That is where I currently am at present....shopping around. I wish to retain my backseat, so it's going to take a pro to do the work....

This week, I plan on pulling the headliner...don't know if I can reuse it or not.
And pulling the windows, to prep for the rollcage install.

My plan: Have the rollcage installed, after I get it back, try to pull the body off, to paint the rollcage w/ POR-15 that is left over from the pan work. Try to put the headliner back in....if I can't, pay someone to do it. I've heard it takes an "experienced hand" to do it correctly. Then reinstall the body and continue with the rewire.

Thanks! I don't see too many of those around. I adopted the project from a nice guy up in Malibu. He, unfortunately had some back problems and was looking for someone who would enjoy it as much as he did. Very Happy

Here's my first project, which was parted out/given away, to recoup my costs in it. It was a 67. I didn't know the hazards of trying to build a 67 baja.

It was rusting and falling apart, so I didn't feel any reserve in cutting it up.

After having it sandblasted and epoxy primered...(I wouldn't EVER recommend this for a VW....btw....) It looked like someone went to town with a shotgun!

Once you have a cage adde to you Baja the body will not come off more than likly, Also once you have the cage in the car the headliner will be a bitch to put in. So if you want one put it before the cage.

From a referral from Samba, I found someone to install my cage and he says I can leave my headliner in! WOOT!

So, I'm dropping it off on Friday.

I already have a nice headliner...that was my concern with having to pull it.
I'm pretty stoked that I'm dropping it off tomorrow. I pulled the windows and the rest of the interior carpet last night after work.

Here's my headliner:

Here's what I found under the rear carpet.

That rear panel is fiberglass...I think...it's hard as a rock. I'm going to have to cut it for the cage install. Have you ever seen someone do that to their rear panel?
