Hey all...the oldest Bug I've owned prior to my '58 Rag was a '68. I'm going to Baja the sucker and I want to put a bigger, newer, 1600-ish motor and tranny in her. Is the mounting the same in the older Bugs? Thanks....Roy

No the mounting is the same. Know for the 58 is it a rust bucket or been a reck? if Not don't do it sell it to someone how will restore it. Then find something that isn't as old or unique.

The body's fairly solid, fenders and trunk are beat up, pans need work, tired old 1200 egg beater in back...I was thinking of dropping the front and ratting it out for a cruiser, but it's screaming Baja. I know it'll piss some poeple off, but that won't be the first time I've done that! Thanks for the info! Roy

An oval-window Baja?...A coupla buddies of mine would hemorrage fecal material for hours about that. Rolling Eyes They're giving me all kinds of grief. Does a bus tranny require any mods? Any particular year bus? Thanks for the help guys....Roy

I am amazed that your buddy knows my wifes pet name for me...small world!...This '58 is rougher than most...I don't know...there's a dude a few miles away that has been stockpiling vw stuff for quite awhile...maybe I'll visit him and see if I can pick up another late 60's bug to cut and stick to my original plan with the Rag. By the way, that's "Mr. Idiot" to people that ain't had a cocktail with me yet! Later boys...Roy
