I do not think the old 2.0 and the new 2.3 and 2.0 will swap parts. The old type 2.0 from what I understand is german and VW based. Also it's the same engine used in starter formul race car classes.

upon some closer inspection, the oil filter is at the rear of the motor, which from what I can tell means its a Ford lima motor, like I had. should make things easier. anyone who knows more about these motors give me som

which of these two carbs should I stick with?

I'm planning to swap the mechanical fuel pump block over, and continue running the electrip pump.
anything else I should swap/replace besides th water pump, plugs, wires and timing belt?

thanks guys.

yeah, i was just giving you a hard time. i can tell you from experiance, the motorcraft 2100 is a great carb, but there is a small plate with an ID number on it, and for a 4.2l 6cyl the plate needs to be a 1.08 ID, wich is about 300CFM. i would imagine for that engine you would want the smallest one (not sure on the ID number.) they only made three diff models of the 2100 so it shouldnt be to hard to dig up the info. they are great running easy to rebuild carbs though. also, nice thing with the motorcraft is they have a huge air cleaner plate so you can run a BHAF. there is my 2 cents.

(the ID number by the way, has somehting to do with the size of eigther the jets or the venturi's)

The first carb is a Holley built for motorcraft, good carb, easy to get parts for. There are TONS of performance upgrades you can do to it.

The second carb is a Weber, not as good of a carb, once they start acting up you are better off to throw them away.

pulled the head today before I went to the BBQ. the intake manifold had a lot of water in it, as well as #2 and 3 intake on the valves. the pistons look good, I can't see any cracks in the head, taking it over for Daryll to look at monday. intake manifold, and part of the head will need some cleanup due to the water if they are still good though. I'll get some pics up tomorrow morning when I get home from work.

Daryll looked at the head today, other than the rust on the intake track of the 2 and 3 valves, it looks all good. cam is a bit worn, but none of the lead circles melted on the motor or anything, so I think my head is good. possibly a bad intake manifold, water cooled one, or the water got in through the carb, or something else.

cleaned up the intake manifold, since it looked crappy all around, and don't see any signs of cracks in the aluminum, testing at static pressure now, but I don't think thats my issue.

also pulled the valve cover off my other motor, and one of the rocker floating around inside off its post.

although the cam looks a bit better shape.

so debating swapping motors, cleaning up my head, maybe work on port/polish it over the next few months, while running the mystery motor?
fix my motor up?

some other ideas?

also got the seals to rebuild my fox shocks, thanks for all the advice guys, you all rock.

I have a good/rebuilt 2.0 "D" port truck head with a roller truck cam in it. It has been years from the time I had it on the Baja. You will need to run better gas, 92 oct or better and back up the timming a little. but it worked fine on my baja.

We can make a deal etc...

Take a look at the valve stem height on the one the rocker arm came off of and compare it to one that the rocker is still on from the same side (you will have to pull a rocker off to measure) I have seen the 2.3s in the past that bent a valve and that caused the rocker to come off.

valve stem heights are both the same height. or VERY close to it. just put the motor on a stand and will check it out more accuratly later.

pulled the oil pan enough to look into it.

other than milkshake in the pan, none up on anything, bottom of the pistons all look good. I cleaned up the mess in the pan, and off the oil pump suction, only thing of concern is a bit of surface rust on the crank/rods

sorry for the cell phone pic, my real camera has taken to hiding from me.

dunno if this helps clear anything up.

now that you have the thing apart with the timing belt of you can run the oil pump with a drill. it's the 3rd sproket off to the side. Buy a can of carb cleaner and stick the pick up in and run the pump. this should clean out most of the gunk/water in the oil passages. then get a nice ligh oil 30w and do the same thing.. you will have to make sure the head is bolted on when you do this. You are starting to get rust spots.

As for getting water into your block. the intake is not the problem. there is no way for oil and water to mix from the intake on the 2.3. If water is getting into your intake runners and down into your cylenders, then the intake is bad or your gasket is bad. I"m betting you have a bad head gasket or a crack in the head. Also make sure you have the locators on the top of the block. 2 small tubes at each end the keep the head in place.
Last if you plan on driving the car when it's gold leave the water hooked to the intake, it pre heats your fuel and carb. with out it the carb will never heat up in the winter and might evan frost up.

Head didn't look cracked, my guess is a bad gasket someplace. I'll have to do something to bolt the motor back down before I can spin the oilpump with the head on. but I'll make sure I do that before I start her up again.

really thinking about that head you've got. where do you live?

thanks again.

mesa basline and estension. The sooner you clean it the better. once you get rust built up on your crank journals you will start to get new problems later on down the road.

working on the gauges today

put in 3 of the 5.

I took a wire brush to the surface rust, got more of that to do later, need to get another wire brush, mine is a bit worse for wear, and as nasty as the carb looks, I think it got in through the carb, so gonna bolt it back together after I pressure test the head, and hope for the best.

carb clean will start when i get the engine back together
