Seems like most of the sandrails i find have no front brakes. i understand that most of the braking is done in the rear of one. it seems like it would be a good idea to have them if you are going to be playing off road and not on the sand. I can see the bad in having them in sand.

Has anyone driven much off road with no brakes on the front of there rails?

You NEED front brakes for general off roading. Bald tires in the sand with no front end weight usually do not work well with brakes.

Leather used to (probably still does) have 2 set ups on his rail. No brakes and spindle mounts for sand, and beefy stuff w/brakes for off road.

The very first time I rode my rail with no front brakes the next weekend it had front brakes. Rear brakes alone are worthless on a hill. I use an adjustable proportion valve to adjust the bias. In the sand I can turn off the braker fluid to the front brakes.
