Hi there, potential baja owner. Here's the scoop, I visit family in Mexico once a year and I fly there with my uncle. I usually spend about a week there and no it's not a tourist destination unless you have a baja bug. As many know the roads in Mexico are well, they suck! Remember they have super low taxes.

I've gotten tired of walking around or borrowing somebody else's car or truck. So I'm thinking of buying a 1968 baja bug that's on CL and storeing it at my aunt's house in Mexico for me to use when I'm over there.

I'm pretty good with a wrench, I don't let anybody touch my rides. So learning about VW's is alright with me.

What do you think? I'm I crazy?

I think expecting an older car like a VW to be a somewhat reliable source of transportation one week per year is a mighty big expectation. I bet you'd spend as much time on the side of the road messing with it as driving it.

Had a similar experience with an older motorhome. Not fun.

Although, I suppose some might look at it from the perspective that VWs are so simple that it might be a good choice for a vehicle for that type of situation.

Yeah I hear you, any car that sits for a year will run like crap. But I don't mind working of cars. Well it seems that Mexico has new law that only allow cars from 1993-1998 to be legalize as a Mexican vehicle. Bummer.

I do have an uncle in Texas!

That baja bug sold, so now I'm really itching to build one with a subaru engine. I know, I know. What the hell do I know about VW's, baja, or subaru's. Well, nothing but that's what sites like this are for.

I have an 89 Camaro RS, switched over to TPI. a 1955 f100, swaping in a 4.3 tbi with vortec heads and edelbrock vortec intake.

So as you can see(or read) I a huge fan of egine swaps.

Well there's a 65 baja project that I'm eyeing. I'll probably buy it and store it until I'm done with my current projects.
