phoenix.craigslist.org...91217.html

Today this car was found out in Queen Creek in the desert just abondoned. The motor and Tranny were stripped along with some little stuff. My uncle said it Looked like it was just dropped off and hasn't been there for long.

He reported it and the cops are going to go look at it and see what the deal is tomorrow. Hope this isn't someones car stolen. Also may be a guy stripping the stuff and collecting on insurance to make ends meet. I don't know what it is but I figured I would let you all know!

My uncle will apply for an abondoned title if this car isn't anything shady, so it might also be a good deal on his part..

I just thought it was weird how he found it just sitting there..The Adds say he needs to sell is ASAP so I think this could be something prettyy wobbly, I'm believen he ditched it for insurance...

i think that someone said that this was someones but i dont remeber to much.
that is weird i havent had a car stolen but my bug has been stolen before. and the guy i got it from said that some tweakers stole it ran a half tank of gas out of it. and left it in front of some house. he went there and put the keys in it started right up and called the cops and meet them at the house.
lucky accutaly most of the cars stolen in the phoenix metro area are taken to mexico

Unless he had custom coverage, it isn't like insurance would give him anything for it. The book value on these things is next to nothing...

I guess he coulda stripped it, but I'd bet he only has liability and is gonna take it in the keester on the deal. I know that's what would happen to me if mine got heisted.

OK guys, here's the skinny on my old Baja. Last week I received a letter from ADOT informing me that my VW was abandoned and had been towed to a storage facility in Queen Creek.

Well, I found out that when I had sold it to a guy who sold it to another guy, neither had the title put in their name. So, I was still the owner as far as ADOT was concerned.

Before I got the letter, I had seen the ad on CL and had contacted the seller telling him how the Baja used to belong to me and that I had done a lot of work to it. He replied the other day telling me that it had been stolen.

I called the storage facility to see what the Baja's condition was and what the charges were against it...and then nearly fainted. The engine, transmission and rear wheels were gone and plus a few other items.

Next, I called the guy that lost it and gave him the info that I had. He told me that he had parked the Baja on a street corner to sell while he was on his way to work. When he went back that afternoon to pick it up, it was gone. Stolen!

He will go to check the Baja's condition to see if he wants it back. If not, he said that I could pay the fees and get it back.

So, I am waiting on a phone call. Maybe the "Bad Bug" will come back home.

Wow- what a saga. If you do end up bailing it out of car-jail, I'd recommend having him give you something in writing stating that he has no vested interest in it anymore. I'd probably do that before I went and spent money on it. I'd also try and get a duplicate title for it first, to make sure that it's still titled in your name. If the old, open title shows up in the picture at some point after you spend your hard-earned money on the car, you could end up disappointed.

Keep us posted!

Thanks for the advice. I had already thought that if I am to get "Bad Bug" back, I will first get the notorized title he has, then get a duplicate.

On another note, in 1992 I sold a 1957 Chevy 210 2door sedan to a friend. He called me yesterday (I had not heard from him in years) to ask a favor. He never notorized that title either and recently sold the car. Since I never put a selling price on the bill of sale, the State Of Illinois sent him a bill for $840.00. He now needs a statement from me as to what I sold him the '57 for.

When I told him that I was in Illinois last year and was thinking about contacting him to see if he still had my old '57 and would sell it back to me, he told me that I should have called. He would much rather have sold it to me than a stranger!

Just another case of "a day late and a dollar short"!
