Well I finally got everything together to get this thing registered. After talking to some other rail owners that had the MC plates I decided to try that way myself.
I went to the one on Bell and this older guy came out in a horrible mood (probably woke him up from a nap). I told him I would like to register the rail and he didn't say a word, just went back in and came out with a piece of paper that showed a rail on top and gave a list of things it must have. Which was the standards things that everyone says.

I told him I just want to register it as an OHV for offroad use only and he said you need all the things on that paper to get a title.

Then he said you don't even have a horn. So I beeped it and said yeah I do. You don't have a place to mount the plate he said. I pointed out the two tabs on back and said it'll fit right there. Wheres the light at. Right there mounted on the bar above the tabs. At this point the guy finally just said you need a windshield. I was like whatever dude.

So I remember someone said something about the place in Buckeye was a good place to go. So I make the trek to Buckeye only to find them closed on Fridays. Well it surely doesn't say that on the web site.

Just as I am about to give up, I find another one and hope that the third times a charm.
Young guy comes out with the handheld machine and says Wats up Bro? Could this really work? Have I found the spot at last?

I said Dude your peeps over in Buckeye are taking the day off so I have to make you work.

I told him I need to title and register this piece of art. He laughs and I see he is wearing a Bengals id card holder so I start talking about them and how I'm from Cincinnati and such.

He asks if I built it, yes I did. What year you want on the title, 69 was a good year, I'll take that. Your all set go on inside and they will take care of you. SWEET

I go inside pay my 37 dollars and I now have an ATV with MC plates fully licensed to drive on the road.

I call my insurance agent tell her and she throws 10k of insurance on it and I am all good.

It really is which place you go.

Isn't it reassuring that we've got such HIGH-CALIBER people working for our government? What a MORON! A windshield to get a TITLE? Unreal. Lazy worthless POS. No wonder he has a government job- can't hang in the private sector where there's COMPETITION. Go back and slash his tires about twenty times over the next year.

I so wanted to go back driving the rail, but I figured this guy would raise some kind of stink and I don't want to ruin it for anyone else.

I think there's SOME form of emissions test required for everything '68 and newer. Rolling Eyes

since we had just recently built my cousin's buggy, he needed to get it titled and get an ohv plate for it. So he goes down to dmv, with about 4 grand or so worth of receipts, but didn't have one for the motor seeing as it was given to him for free. He's outside, and somebody comes out, looks at it for a few seconds, slaps a vin plate on it, and gives him a piece of paper and tells him to go inside. He goes in, and they look at receipts to determine value. They ask where he got the motor and he told them he got it for free from a coworker. Being the a-holes that most dmv workers are, they wouldn't give him a title. They made him go get a bonded title for it, and after a lot of extra money spent, he was able to go back, and get his ohv license for it.

So just an insight to everyone, if its gonna be titled for the first time, and you're required to have receipts, make sure you got one for the motor, even if it was free and you built it yourself.

I agree with JWH make up some sort of receipt just to make it easier. However the girl that I got inside just made copies of the ones I had which were for everything except the engine and tranny and she never said a word. When I think about it, the guy outside never even checked for anything.

A MCSO Sherriff was at Sycamore today informing people about the new laws. Anything not titled at the factory as a passenger vehicle weighing under 1800 pounds needs the sticker. He also said any vehicle used more than 51% off road can be registered as such for much less than the regular registration.

The 1800 # cutoff was bugging me and I reasearched it today.
I went to DMV (they would not issue a OHV permit to me because I have a full size passenger car registration and license plate.
Az Fish and Game, MCSO officer Palino and Jerry Weiers (sponsor of the new OHV bill) each spent about 15 minutes talking to me and confirmed the DMV's statement. Sandrails and Bajas, even if they weigh under 1800 lbs, with the full size passenger license plate, insured that are primarilly driven on road do not need the OHV decal. The law is targeted at non titled Quads, 3 wheelers and motorcycles, etc. If you have a rail it gets an MC plate and a OHV sticker $3 registration, $25 for the sticker.

All others have to have a RV or MC plate, insurance and the new OHV sticker.
Any on riding a quad, atc or Mc must have a helmet.

Sycamore is slated for closure to shooting and will be a permit only area sometime in the near future. Notice the cutout on 87 is gone and the big pile of dirt at the entrance to FRD 417. Anyone caught bring targets, trash and junk and shooting it up and or leaving it there will also be procecuted in Federal court.

You should end up with a RV or MC plate and an OHV permit and will need some type of insurance. There are registration forms for off road only.
