i was thinking of getting this for my car and building a custom speaker thing in the back were the seats is and putting 2 speakers there and to in the front and then were good to go. i think that is a far price for what you get. and i dont need a whole lot for my bug anyway. all i need is something to get me by.

I tried that once, I still couldn't hear crap. Which goes to show you that the only music you need is whatever comes out of your tailpipe Smile

But seriously, Bajas are loud, good luck Laughing

If worse comes to worse and you need it a bit louder, you can always get a cheap amplifier.

But once you get the instructions it's pretty simple to do. All you need is a 12v feed, an ignition on feed, a ground, a headlight feed (if you want it to dim at night), and two wires for each speaker. The speakers will have a small terminal and a large one, the small one is negative and the large one is positive.

Normally the deck itself comes with a fuse in it, but I wouldn't 100% rely on it. I'd probably run a 10 amp fuse for the ignition-on source and a 15 amp fuse for the 12v constant.

As far as what you hook it up to exactly, I'm not sure, somebody here can probably fill in on that one. I'm sure considering your wiring harness has been modified that you're going to have to test a few things out for yourself. Do you have a voltmeter, a multimeter, or anything along those lines?

Here's what I would do, under your hood, I would take the voltmeter and see if any of the open terminals that you can plug wires into, have a constant 12v connection all the time. Try to avoid sharing the terminals with other wires if possible. Once you find a good one, use that for your 12v main power going to the radio (instructions that come with the radio should tell you which wire this is). Do the same for the ignition on, just keep clicking the key from off-on to find that one. The ground, I'd probably just find somewhere under your hood that you can ground that wire to. After that, plug in your radio, turn your key on and make sure it's working. Mount the deck somewhere and go ahead and mount your front speakers where you want them. Run wiring to the front two speakers from the deck (once again, your instructions that come with the deck will tell you FL, FR for front left and front right, signifying - and + for negative and positive. After you have the front speakers hooked up, test it again to make sure you have sound, probably just pop a CD in.

After that, if it were me, I'd probably keep playing music as I mounted the rear speakers and ran the rear wiring up to the deck, shut everything off as you actually start to wire it, turn it back on when you're done and test it.

It's just 3 main wires and 2 wires for each speaker, fairly simple to do, once you get into it I doubt you'll get lost.

Just remember, if you lose all power to the radio at any point, you'll lose all your presents and your clock will reset. But if you want to use a switch for your ignition-on source, that'll work.

I hooked my amp up straight to the battery with a fuse (10 amp I think not sure).
I bought an old 90's car amp from the flee market for 5 euro's.

It has the tulip conections and I hook up my nokia to it.
I hate to have to listen to the radio anyway.
I already had some speakers in the car when I bought it so bought some cables and connected them. It works great and it gives a lot of sound quality and volume for 5 euro's.

So if you have no use for a radio, need a lot of volume (I do with the noise my baja makes) and don't have a lot of money its an option.
I'm sure the sound is better than most 100 buck radio's that are for sale.
