What kind of airfilter? The non oilbath types can also freez up the carb. I can use them only in summer in Holland when temps are 20°C and up.

try jetting your carb so it is leaner. that well help bring up the temp if your running a oil cooler get a thermostatic bypass so that way its not always running through the cooler. try those things let me know goodluck

redid the valves again tonight and it sounds better. kind of snappy...
found out the #2 exhaust port rocker arm is contacting the valve= possiblity of constant backfire.
i took the adjusting screw all the way out and still no gap.
anybody know why this might happen?

thinking so. no clearance between valve and rocker arm. but why would the arm ever get so close to the valve that it would contact?
spacer missing?

Not to scare you, but I have read in the rebuilding your ACVW book, the valve is stretching and should be replaced before the head comes off. Luckily the valves are cheap. I would plan for that as soon as possible.
