so i replaced the cv and a clicking sound is still coming from the driver side rear.
the wheel when on a lift seems to have A LOT of play when pushed left and right. so, i threw the good ol' air gun on the castle nut and pulled it 2 or 3 threads tighter. sound is still there...

so, if i'm not mistaken i need to take the whole thing apart and replace the inner bearings and seals and everything, right?

my question is, do you have to take the control arm off the car to replace them (as the book says) or can you do it without taking the arm off?

also, how long does it take and do you need any special tools?

You can do it on the car. It would be a good time to upgrade to the Sway Away chrome moly spacer kit. It takes about an hour a side if nothing is frozen. The job can be done without any special tools.

Yeah. It's not a big deal.

The stock ones are not up to the task of supporting the load off roading, stiffer suspensions, larger engines, tall/wide tires place on them. Symptoms are stripped hubs due to a loose axle nut caused by the spacers collasping. Get the VW factory manual it has detailed information you will need if you do the job yourself.

Try Woods, Karls, CE and Chirco. As for price I do not remember.

It is your money and time. I would not want to do the job if the better spacers were not used. I would trust the old stock ones more than I would new stock spacers. German steel vs Brazil/China steel. If your drum is not loose the spacers are still good.
