I asked several rail builders what rake they run on the front and they were all between 7 and 15 degrees. My upper arms have heims for inner pivots so I can still adjust caster there.

Problem with the brakes is most likely in the turning brakes. (now you have 4 master cylinders to deal with. If You could bypass to trouble shoot the problem it might help.
Good Luck, Joe

Are the turning brakes a sand thing? We used them in rockcrawling a bit, but later surrendered to the all-mightly throttle... Smile
I'm stuck between trying to keep it cheap, simple and fun, but I just KNOW that I won't be happy until there's coilovers poking through the hood. I think I may stick with a trimmed up version of the front trailing arms/beam setup, but I'm going to cut and clearnace that lower beam tube for looks and ground clearance, use a long bolt on each side to keep the lower trailing arm in place. The rear end seems pretty easy to work with...?
Just need to figure out the CV/axle choices and stuff. Do you happen to know if there's like a kit available to switch it all out to porsche stuffs? I saw one somewhere and now can't find it. I PLAN on running an 091 TA with a 22r motor...
And BTW... what did you do with your 3x3 trailing arms? Wink

There are a few place that sell complete kits with axles cvs arms bushings etc to go to longer wider arms.
Chirco.com<<<<board sponsor here!!! Cool
Dansperformanceparts.com
To name a few....

The 3x3s are going to go on my wifes rail with the built 091 and all the other spare( i changed my mind) parts from this build. Hers is most likely going to have a k series honda motor though after I firgure out how to build those engine harnesses

Npetric is your baja gonna be at the Karl's show?

I came to baja's from the world of Honda, and I'd like to see how your motor and stuff is set up. The K series in a rail sounds really fun too.

Right now my street car has a B18C1. Hopefully over the holiday break I can pull it, sleeve it, build it, and put some forced induction on it.

Hey, to drag you back onto the rake subject again...do you think you'd gain more steering radius with even more rake? Not to mention possibly a little less "shove" around corners with the lack of weight up front? Or does the 10* you're at right now seem pretty adequate? It would help if I knew what stock was...might need to go check, atleast give me a baseline...

Man...I've got so many damn questions for you...want them here or should I just email you? Basically, I want to rape your brain on the A-arm setup. I'm out there hacking mine up and not liking how it's looking. Everything just looks old, weak, and cluttered to me. I need to check your pics again, but I can't tell where you chopped off the old front clip and welded in your new clip/A-arm supports.
This is all very decieving to me as Bugs are SOOOO much smaller than I thought! For some reason I had them in the same size bracket as say a Ford Escort or something...not the little brother to the SmartCar!

That arm bug is just too darn cool. the red one is so darn cool too but the arms seem to over shadow it a bit. If mine turns out looking half as good as that red one i will be a pretty happy camper.

I sure wish i had more money for toys.

Well........Worked on the cow car tonight...decided...AWW HELL Im gonna take it around the block.....I know im not done with the wiring...but I got lights on my roof rack, Power steering is done, Everything that is on the car is tight, havent finished messing with the brakes but the pedal feels ok......what could go wrong right?????? So I say to myself....eff it Im gonna see what happens. Back it out of the garage, take off.....kinda fast heading for the corner of my front yard...ohh WAIT is that a car???? better slow down.....WHERE THE HELL ARE MY BRAKES?????? Luckily my front yard is pretty big and I was able to just jump the curb into the grass and everything was fine Embarassed
Poor lady was both blinded by my lights and scared I was gonna hit her Shocked
Oops....back in the garage gotta get the brakes done right and adjust the shift cable a little( kind of had to hold it in reverse) Next time I will have someone around that can get some pics/vids......damn, would have been a FUNNY video tonight!!!!!!
That ends my night with the car...I gotta go change my shorts Laughing

Ohhhh man sounds fun! Try it in reverse next time, that will really get your heart rate up.

Seriously though, glad to hear that it didn't turn out worse.
