I just started rebuilding my '69 Baja Today was the day for the pans. I thought I would show my progress here. Keep in mind this is my first attempt at build a Baja from basically scratch. I did not finish the pans but got far enough to say that is enough for 1 man 1 day
Here is the before pic

Here is the pans remove still some clean up needed

here are the new pans sitting in place

I still need to remove the back support as I will use the one on the car. Thanks to T_Town_Baja for the advice he has shared so I don't turn this into scrap.
One I remove the back supports from the new pans then I just need to grind the lip on the tunnel, make sure it is nice and straight add spot weld holes and weld these in place. I set out to get that far but after about 4-5 hours I am beat. There will be another day

That is a SHAME to have to cut that, isn't it? Too bad- I used to have a '66 baja body sitting in my backyard that I would have GIVEN you to save this one (Daryll GAVE it to me!), but alas, I paid it forward, and it went on to a new home.

Bummer.

has nothing to do with scared, it has to do with, why not cut up a wrecked body, lol. Straight bodies are harder and harder to find. I saw that body when I was over there, it is clean. The trouble is finding a suitable baja body to trade Twisted Evil

It is not about pi$$ing the purist off . This is only to help a fellow AZBaja member that is building a street bug and has offered his help to me. I wouldn't mind building a street bug myself but I have most of the parts to complete a Baja ie; Wheel tires exhaust rollbar lighting seats etc. it wouldn't be cost effective to me to do the street thing right now But if we can't find the right one I guess it will be cut up. Doesn't hurt to look at options though

Update; T_Town_Baja (Blaine) was nice enough to come over today and weld the pans in for me. I just couldn't seem to do it with my flux welder. I guess it is just good for fence posts. I need to seam seal it and then I wish to do the bed-liner treatment. I will post pic's after that as there is not much to see.
T_Town_Baja said here was going to repair his body so looks like I will be cutting the '66 for sure now.

I've used both Herculiner and Dupli-color liquid bedliner, and I'd recommend the Dupli-Color for your pan. The Herculiner is really gritty- you can almost scrape your knuckles on it. I used it on my tunnel and heater channels- I wish I'd have tried the Dupli-Color instead. This week, I tried the Dupli-Color on my front end and fenderwells (front), and it's a much smoother finish, plus it's a lot cheaper. The Herculiner is $30/quart, and the Dupli-Color is $55/gallon. I bought the Dupli-Color this week at Autozone.

In case you're interested...

I would like to see the pictures of the Dupli-color. I was wondering about that stuff. I actually have a coupon for that for 49.99 from the Harbor Freight for the kit which comes with the roller etc. I think. How did you both apply it roller brush spray? What do you all recommend for seam sealer?
