Heres some pics of my baja. excuse my friend jeramies bad manners. Sorry for the bad quality I had to borrow a camera as mine is out of commision. Comments? Next to go on are the tail lights, turn signal arm, and replace the grounding straps and battery cables.
After that the pan welded and the package tray patched.

Not bad...... HOLY CRAP! that's got some serious rust in it. hopefully it doesnt get much worse than that.

you'll find that the book in the driver seat is VERY useful. it saves headaches, trust me

its a starter baja. what are your plans for it?

where in oregon are you from?

im not im in Vancouver, Wa. The last time it was licensed it was on Or. Yeah its starter all right. the rust isnt really bad except for the package tray and battery area. otherwise its pretty solid. Its a 70 body 60 pan and 73 dual port thats been switched to single (dont ask it wasnt me). It has shock upgrades in the front and back, nothing special. After the repair work is done I'm planning on putting on baja bumpers in the front and back as well as skid plates. As soon as its got its tail lights I'm going to drive it around and get quotes for cages. I havent decided on the exterior cage or the interior. After that I'm going to take it out and see if I like how it handles, upgrades will be based on that. Otherwise I think the bug will stay pretty much the same.

Thanks for your comment!

Now would be a good time to doublwe check your starter and replace that ground strap, just don't get cut on the rust. Gives me an idea for an access panel for easier starter access. thinking hinges, weather stripping and flush dzus fasteners. Idea

there are two things that are most important to invest some money in. for me it would be reliability and suspension. make sure that when your out having fun that your motor is running smooth and doesnt over heat. also suspension. suspension travel will save your back with those stock seats and your head cuz you will bounce like your on a trampoline. im not sure how violent you are with your driving so #1 thing is safe and reliable.

what i mean by reliability is make sure everything works. being that the wires have probably never been touched i'd invest in a new wiring harness for the whole car. ( thats if the wires are in bad shape)

now for a roll cage. i had a 6 point. they cover the whole cab inside the car and bolt to the bottom of the car. welding is needed to make these cages so you or someone you know will need to weld it.

my baja is on these sites (its the purple one) its sold though and i wish i still had it

www.blacktopdyno.com

hope this helps. if not then it refreshed my memory lol Smile

looks like good progress. one thing i would add to your to-do list is brakes. nothing fancy, just get the stock ones to work correctly, then maybe go from there. everyone [me included] wants to look good & go fast but good binders are REAL performance.
