I just restarted to restore my 69 Baja and was thinking about using a spray on truck bed liner for the paint. Has anyone done this?

My pan has herculiner on it. Doing the whole body would make it heavy, but durable. I prefer paint

herculiner is great stuff
i wouldnt tink that it would go good for the body but if you do it for the pan then it is good. also it would and will make your car alot heavyer. and it probably wouldnt look to good either.
just use paint or rattle can ( joxs )

That's WILD! I had a red spray-in bedliner in my OBS diesel Ford, and it faded pretty bad. I hope that doesn't happen to this FJ. Cool though!

The bottom half of my Baja project is cheap Wal-Mart roll on bedliner. I used it on my Warrior a few years ago and loved it. Easy to touch up, wears well..

The herculiner is good stuff and the price is fair. We have done several pans with it, and one we lines the whole inside of the car. The only caustion I will give you is once you have bedlinered the outsied, its next to imposible to get off. So if you are going to do it make sure you are ready for it to be permanent.

i was thinking of lining my whole car too, but now i might just do the bottom half of the car and the pan for sure. what spots do you have to make sure NOT to hit with the liner that might cause problems later? and can you paint over the liner to put stripes or designs over it?

For me, the idea of getting it off is not much of a problem. I can replace the doors from my personal stash and the fenders were junkyard dogs that are cheap to replace. That only leaves two areas with liner on it. The front and rear quarters can be had off with a sander in an hour or two (lots of heavy grit paper...).
I have never tried to paint over it with a contrasting color. I use Rustoleum semi-gloss black over the bedliner to even the tone out a bit. That takes about 3 cans for the portion you see.... The only things you shoud be careful of are the edges-they can accumulate a bit too much if you tend to stop there. The door handle are should be light too, because it can be hard to get the handles to fit. Stay away from the bolt holes, it is tough to get the bolts in if some seeps in there.

I saw too buses this weekend that had the exterior done in Hippo brand bedliner. It has a UV protector and can be tinted. The guys said it runs about $175 for a gallon, and can be purchased and mixed at carquest. He said the bus took 6 gallons. Looked cool, but thats about $1200....

I think I'm going to go with the lower half and the pan in side out.
