There was a article in HVW years back about rewiring your ignition to work only if the headlight switch was pulled out. Anybody got it?
Can't be too hard since the power for the ign. goes thru the switch first.

Lights with motion detectors and a couple of cameras might make them go elsewhere. Using 1/2 inch chain I would chain the rim through the beam and another chain from the beam to a hard point anchored in concrete. Even if they try to drag it away it will stop. A motion dectector hooked to the horn will let you know if someone is trying to cut the chain. You can nose the Baja up to the house and put another car behind it.

Best option is to cover your basis. FULL COVERAGE! If your stuff gets jacked, get it replaced. Sure we may lose sentimental value, but most of us got our baja's for great deals and we drive them because we like to tinker/build/play with them. All my VW's get full coverage and Classic Car if its a street car ($195/year full coverage)

The way I see it, if they want it, they will take it, no matter what. I make sure to disable it from running(killswitch, removable steering wheel, line lock, whatever) and nose it into my driveway. If they are hard pressed and get the car turned around and hook up to it, then take the damn thing. Its insured for more than I have in it AND I wouldn't mind starting a new project with the $$ from the insurance company!

Fact is, VW's are hot items and there is no Cure all for theft. I kept the baja in the garage all the time and the street car outside the garage, because it is too low to hook a towbar too and they wont get it started without a bit a work...
