hey there. ive got a baja bug with 30x10 inch tires on it. it has a 1641 cc with a w100 cam. the car came with a stock solex 31 pict carb on it. i wasn't getting enough low end power so i had my idle jets bored a little bigger(he didnt tell me how much Rolling Eyes )now with the bigger idle jets it idles like crap. the idle is WAY too low and adjusting the idle screw doesn't help at all. the carb i have has 2 idle jets on it, i don't know if only 1 is supposed to be bigger or what. its a Brazilian carb. the jets fixed the low end power issue, but screwed up the idle. it also blows a little black smoke(too rich) which leaning it out kinda helped it. i dont know if i should have the timing advanced to a certain amount? or if should just give up and buy a couple new carbs and run dual. this thing is kicking my ass! Confused

If it were mine, I'd run a 009 and a set of dual 40mm Kadrons on that thing. It would be a fast fix and would run great. If you felt really ambitious, you could pull the heads, do a little Dremel work, and get an extra 15% HP gain over that, too.

i would like to put duals on it, id have to get a different rear bumper tho because it the kind that connects to the firewall right were the carbs would go. but other than that, im going to hit up a guy i know in sac this weekend and see if he could hook it up with a pair of carbs. hes an old baja racer and has a TON of stuff. oh and its single port...

Single port with a 100 cam? Not a great mix. I don't know what your budget is but I'd strongly consider a dual port set up before I did anything else at all.

yea it is a horrible set up, but thats all that it came with and i dont have any extra parts. my new engine will definitely be DP. but as of today i actually got it working! i took it around the block for the first time in almost a year :). the mixture screw was just too far out. so yea it seems to be pretty good now. responsive with ok acceleration. i just need to find a better shifter and get the brakes working better.
